Last night was interesting. Finish up my day job at 5:20 and turn on the Uber app as I'm logging of my computer at work. Before I can turn the monitor off I get a ping. 2 minutes away, 2 minute ride NE. Not a great ride but t will get me on the road. Pings from my pace of employment are rare as I work in between two busy areas. Buy time I walk out and get to them it is almost 9 minutes. Ha I paid a long pick-up fee from Uber. Not muck but free money.
Pax are pretty cool, they had been trying to get a ride for almost 15 minutes with no luck or driver cancelling right away. Take them the 1. miles to their destination and get a $20 tip. Nice.
I continue heading home and stage in one of my hot spots. Get another ping for a short trip heading away from home but still profitable so I take it. Get talking to the PAX they are from out of town and I screw up. I made a u-turn to head toward home instead of continueing to where they selected. I immediately apologize as now I have to drive nearly 2 miles around to back where I screwed up. Told them sorry I am not used to going that was as most people go the other way from that resort. They start asking me about where they selected and where most people go. I talked them into a restaurant that was 6 miles away in the direction I wanted to go. They changed the destination in the app. Figured I was going to get dinged in my ratings for that one. But hey I was taking them to a great restaurant in my opinion. Dropped them off and went about my driving.
About 1.25 hours later I get a $5.00 tip notification. It was from the trip I screwed up. I was only a couple miles away from that restaurant so I figured I'll head that way to try and get a re-match. Figured they were just turning app back on to request a ride and they saw their last trip and left a tip. Score, a couple minutes later I get a ping from that restaurant and recoginized the name. Get there and it was them. They thanked me for my suggestion and said the place and food was great. I'm thinking I got lucky and won't take a hit to my ratings. We talk a little more and they were asking about tiki bars to go to to have a couple drinks. I give them the run down on the most popular 3 and convince then to go to the one furthest away. They thanked me again for the restaurant suggestion after my mistake driving and for suggesting a tiki bar for them to go to. I end the ride and pay pops up, damn that is awful high. Look at it and see the left a $20.00 tip before the ride ended. Great couple, hope I pick them up again tonight.
Finally last night about 10:30 PM things had slowed down and I was finishing up logging my day in excel and planning on going home. Guy walks up to my car and says you Uber, I can see you on the app. I say yes, now in full alert. He wants me to take him to Miami for cash. He is offering me less than I would get paid in Uber. I tell him I don't do cash rides and he stops and says you are the Mother****er that picked me up last year and left me stranded in the middle of the Everglades. Oh crap I remember that. He started screaming at me and was getting agitated, I started my car up and punched the gas to get away from him. Saw a deputy sheriff in a parking lot a little down the road and reported what happened. He said since he did not toucm me there was nothing he could do however he will tell him to not approach meany more and if he did he would go to jail. It was easy for the deputy to find him as he was walking down the road toward the next parked Uber driver.
