I remember when Uber first started in Miami, about 6 years ago. Rates were only slightly cheaper than a taxi then, but it didn't take long for them to start lowering our pay significantly. Lots of drivers tried organizing strikes then, we even got several news stations to broadcast a strike in front of Government Center, but ultimately it did absolutely nothing.
The way these gig companies are set up ensures that there will always be plenty of drivers available, and it is practically impossible to organize a large enough percentage of the work force to make a difference with a strike. Even now, with the Corona virus ravaging our country, there are still more than enough drivers willing to work to meet the demand.
The only way change will ever be enacted is if it is enforced through the government. No amount of strikes or complaining from the work force will ever convince these gig companies from changing their ways.

I agree with every point you made here. The only place I drive is down in the Florida Keys because the pay is better

Maybe paying out of the U.S.Treasury as a consequence when gig economy bigs profit from shafting independent contractors by not paying their employers share will get attention from U.S. taxpayers. Taxpayers might think of this when they order their next cheap ride; certainly when they are told why their payroll taxes need to go up.

A raw nerve in America has been exposed by the corona virus. The gap between the well off and everyone else is huge

reading several articles regarding how the rich have ‘escaped‘ NY to their second homes to wait it out. Another split is the white collar worker who can work at home while the lower economic tier is still exposed as the cashier at your supermarket or Walmart.

it’s long been pointed out how the average American can’t go 30 days without income and this is exposed too. Too few have any money saved to cover rent or a mortgage payment or credit card payments. And checked with my bank and yeah I could defer payment but it just accrues more interest to pay later.

The well off are simply a superior people. The well off know what it takes to hoard money from the economy and use it to increase their share of profit. In capitalism you're either a laborer or an owner of capital.

Trump superior? To what? An amoeba?

His daddy gave him $300mm. Trump parlayed that into....$200mm. genius!

Paris Hilton? Kim Kardashian? Bimbos who inherited millions.

Superior? I don't think so. Right now they're suffering too. No illegals to wash their underwear or make sandwiches for them. Oh, the despair!

To be fair both Paris and Kim K turned their millions into significantly more.

Obviously it's easy to turn lots of money into more money (which highlights how terrible Trump is with money)

The craziest rich get richer story is Kylie Jenner. Even if she started with 100 million to "play with" she turned that 💩 into a billion. And she's 22.

If her last name wasn't Jenner, she would have blown that $100mm on coke. Her billion came from some makeup or fashion line. All the idiots who want to be just like Kim Kardashian bought her shit.

Now that we're in a depression, the greatest of all time to quote Trump, watch how quickly that billion evaporates as parents cut the allowances of their spoiled brats to zero.

Everyone knows that billionaires diversify their assets. They will never know the smell of piss from the MIA waiting lot restroom.

Yeah, watch and learn.

Every single asset class plummeting. Negative interest rates.

As they say, you can run but you cannot hide.

The billionaires in 1920 Germany were diversified, too. Then hyperinflation hit as the currency became worthless.

Suddenly, they were trillionaires. All worthless.

When you have nothing, you have nothing to lose. When you have everything, you have EVERYTHING to lose.

The world was less global then. Wake me up when billionaires start going hungry.

Stop watching fox news and get your head out of your ... The world is indeed collapsing. In 1349 they had the black plague. In 2020 we have the Trump plague.

But I'm sure you're immune.

Florida is the new epicenter. Cases and deaths exploding. What part of this don't you understand.

Went to Walmart. No toilet paper so I loaded up on ammo.
