Hi all experienced drivers,

I drove last night in Wollongong, got 7 trips for 45 Dollars. I am just thinking how much I have to pay income tax in future earnings ? Gst is 10% and what about income tax?

Moreover, I started recording kms, I have reciepts for the fuel as well, how you guys claim petrol ? is it per km of the car ??

Please reply thank you

Hi Moby,
You should talk to an accountant as everyone's situation varies. Other income, percentage of use etc..
Keep your fuel, cleaning, maintenance receipts.
Running a log book for 3 months is a good idea, include private usage.
Check out Airtax or similar firms that specialise in BAS and tax for rideshare drivers.
It may look complicated but with the right professional advice you will be on your way.

Mate, at the very least start keeping either an online or paper based logbook.
Easy, record your daily kilometres and record all expenses, fuel, services, tyres, rego, insurance, etc...
The log book will thus identify the % of mileage for personal and work (uber).

That’s a staring point but get professional advice pronto, as stated above, everyone’s situation is different.

Get the logbook tomorrow and start using it...ASAP

Good luck out there, drive safely and enjoy yourself...

Wollongong now has over 500 drivers plus a contingent that come down from the Shire and Campbeltown to help bolster the numbers. The only really profitable times to work are early morning, nights from Wednesdays to Saturday and Saturday and Sunday daytime. Big demand for Uber but oversaturated with drivers.

Where do you generally drive in Gong? Any place where I can get more riders mate ? I live in Fairy Meadow.

too many drivers everywhere
Hi mate,

As you are an experienced driver, I need to ask that smaller trips in an hour are better or less but long trips are good? Yesterday night I got all 7 in ahour but got 45 dollars

Moby, did you say you did 7 trips in an hour for $45? That is exceptional for a Monday night. What's the problem but I don't really believe you did 7 trips in an hour! Best areas to work depends on the time of day and which day. My suggestion is to start in Fairy Meadow and just go with the flow Early evening the outer suburbs are good but after midnight most of the good jobs are from the CBD or Nth Gong. Early morning northern suburbs mostly to CBD, airport and Sydney CBD If you get a trip to Sydney stay there, DO NOT drive back, use your SDs to start heading south when you want to go home. Any more specifics you will have to learn yourself like all here on the forum. Check daily online what events are on and target them. Mostly, Uber is common sense, local knowledge and perseverance. This is all the info I'm going to give away as it's very competitive in all Aussie markets and experienced drivers don't really need to encourage new drivers to potentially take business away from them. Every question you have asked has simple answers here on the forum and perhaps you should learn to use Google!!

MA,
the log book you’ve got is only got mileage, and other logbooks also have an expense section..
(I made the same mistake and got the same logbook as you)
Turn the last 10 or so pages into the expense section
Write in columns
Date,
Business name e.g. 7/11 fairy meadow
What eg fuel
Total eg $44.00
Gst Eg. $4.00 (listed on the receipt)

That’s it... total when you get to the end of the page or month or whatever...

No, really, no need to thank me... lol

Later dudes.

You may be right. I started on the Gong last year and there seems to be too many drivers. Today I've made $68 in just over 6 hours and came out this afternoon for a few hours for two small fares, had to cancel another as passenger wanted pick up from illegal location and wouldn't answer phone. Unless Uber puts a limit on number of drivers on Wollongong it will only get worse. Uber Eats the same, I'm down to a couple a day whereas I used to do up to 10

...Adam86,you don't have to wait for Über to limit drivers, just quit yourself and it will reduce number of drivers around the Gong or you feel that you are above others???...
