So today I get a ping, and get a text "can you pickup my daughter from school? She missed the bus, I will give you a large tip".
So I text her "I'm not allowed to pickup minors without an adult".
"Do not worry, I'll tip really well".

So not only did this mom not tip, she left me 1 star.

Now before I picked this person up, I read online that it is "okay to pickup minors if a parent requests the trip".
Which I found out later is DEAD WRONG. My bad.

So I reported her..because her daughter did not miss the bus, her mom feels "she gets bullied riding the bus".
I really hate people like this, and kinda hate myself for being dumb enough to do the trip, but the PAX said her mom has "done uber every day for her".
I do not feel comfortable picking up a 13-14 year old girl up by herself. Never again. In fact I might start asking for ID if they look young.
Her mother should not be allowed to have children if she thinks it is fine to put her young daughter in cars with random strangers. Shit parent.

Lesson learned, it would seem. Mom was a jerk for down rating you, but my guess is that it is too expensive for her and she was angling for a refund. Hopefully she doesn't make any false report that gets you sidelined.
Not sure. But it seems like a lot of people have been getting scammed lately with promises of large tips.
Then a 1 star if the pax doesn't get what they asked for.
It is extortion, plain and simple.
If other drivers would curtail this BS (I will from now on) it would happen a lot less.
Then of course these scammy PAX will file a false report as you mentioned.
I wish I would of got the mom's phone number, would of gave her a nice ass chewing.

I have taken to calling when the pickup turns out to be a school. I tell them that Uber reminds us that we should not take unattended minors, and that they risk deactivation. Then i cancel and call support.

Some people don't know. All of them tell you "all the other drivers do it", which is when i ask them why i am more concerned about their child's safety than they are?

Agreed. Call them and support. But wait for THEM to cancel so are least you can get a cancel fee for your efforts.

True. But if you are at the school and they don't cancel, wait out the five minutes, cancel for unattended minor, and you get the fee without contacting support.

But also do this, make sure Lyft is on. You will likely get that ping as well. Rinse and repeat, collect again.

I've had this as well. When I called I informed that Mom could schedule to be picked up and ride with the driver to the school, pick up daughter, and ride back.

And I got this response..........

"Then I might as well just drive there myself"

Ummmmmmmm

Folks, I'm getting kinda slow in my old age, but after awhile I tend to figure this crap out.

You didn't get the 1* for any other reason than........

Wait for it......

She does this all the time, and if a driver questions her?

She 1*s the driver and Uber will not pair her account with her again.

Less of a chance SHE HAS TO PAY CANCELLATION FEE.

The only time I suspected I actually picked up an unaccompanied minor. I picked up no where close to a school. Dude looked marginally over 18. I asked for an ID. Said he left his wallet at his friends house, and that was where he was heading.

Had a great conversation on the way to his friends house but I told him he should carry his ID.

Checked my ratings later, had a 1* and every other rider had tipped me that day.

Had not driven the previous 3 days so I can be sure it was him.

He 1* me so I would never be paired with him again!

Brilliant.

It's just one more reason I'm going to use High Schools as cash cows.

No mercy! Lol

No, the "lesson" here is: Regardless of what they claim, DO NOT PICK UP MINORS, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. You dont get a bad rating and you dont have to deal with it.

Dude decided to break the rules because he wanted the tip.

Either way, you question their age or check id, you are asking fake complain or possible deactivation. If they look young, get out and cancel.

It's because the pax also don't want to rematch with the same driver.

Always get the tip upfront! You got got. No shame in it. Just learn from the mistake and move on. That's what I would do. If you cannot move on, perhaps a call to child protective services to let them know of this potentially dangerous situation...

I wish I would of got the mom's phone number, would of gave her a nice ass chewing
Out of context, this reads quite scandalous and funny. I think I saw this scenario on one of the websites on the Top 10 list recently posted.
