I get to my next rider's pickup location and the timer starts. The time remaining is 30 seconds to collect the cancellation fee and get the hell out of there. But then there comes two girls towards my car. I slide to begin trip and wow, they're going 6 minutes away. THEN the girl says very casually as if she's placing an order at Starbucks, "Oh and I'll stop by the Quickie to get a pack of smokes on the way there". Usually I'm okay about it, but not when you make me wait 4 and half minutes and only going 6 minutes away. I say, "Sorry, no can do." They look as though it's the first time someone said no to them. As I went by the Quickie one said "STOP!" I stopped, with the plans of ending trip once they get out and leave. But instead one of the girls stayed in my car, making it impossible to leave. I ended the trip at their destination and rated them 1 star. I'm done making stops for people.

only time i won't stop is if it's surge. other than that idc if the pax wants to stop along the way. sometimes i use that stop as a bio break. I will say, ya im fine with the stop i need to use the restroom, you good with that? never had one say no.
CanadianUberMan , You can take this a step further and say since you're getting out of the car, everyone must get out of the car. Once they're out you know what to do. :p

This is a good idea. Then they actually have to walk into the restaurant and wait in line, instead of in the relative comfort of your back seat. So they might think twice about whether they really need that food.

Recently a lady had me stop at a gas station so she could buy beer for her friend. I didn't might because it was right on the way and she was quick. I did notice though that she made sure to leave her cell phone charger in the car, and tell me not to drive off because she had done do. Similar to leaving a friend in the car.

The phone charger is more valuable than the friend.

A girl had me stop today and leave purse in car so I couldn't drive off. But to be honest I don't really mind making a stop so they can go into a gas station or whatever. In just over 100 trips I have two gas stations, one drive through, and a bank so the guy could deposit money. All of these riders have tipped. Actually another I brought to get her wallet (left at bar) and she was back out in three min with address update and also a tip. So people do seem to appreciate stops.

I doubt most of us mind doing it (stopping) for tippers.... problem is, most don't tip. They want limo service at city bus rates.

some think that since you make money per minute it's fine even though the rate is paltry.

Thus why that tip is so important. I'm helping you out.... help me out.

I often laugh when talking to newbies.... they're like, "don't we get paid by the minute?" To which I reply, "You're seriously happy with (insert ridiculously low per minute pay amount)? What else would you do for such low pay? I'd like to hire you."

Guys, you're giving the pax the idea that it's a normal, standard thing to stop mid-ride with no consequences for the pax. At LEAST demand cash, and say " I was burned by my last rider who promised to tip in-app when I did that favor for him; now I have a "cash-in-hand only" rule when stopping. Unfortunately that guy ruined it for all of my future pax." That way, even if they don't say they will tip you an app prior to asking you to do this favor, you get that wording in so they know that they should be tipping you. I cannot stand when people want to stop without expecting to have to give a little extra, and when we do them more and more favors like that, it's ruining it for all of their future drivers because pax are more entitled than average.

The key is making them love you from the start of the ride, so they can't give you a crap rating since you were nice and you drove safely and logically to their destination, and worst-case scenario, they give you a shitty rating - then you give it right back.

Surge is when I'll gladly stop!

I had three drunken bimbos last weekend during a small 2.1X surge who wanted Taco Bell. Ended up turning a $10 ride into a $20 ride!

I made one stop when I began driving, Rookie mistake.
It was a 4.3 pax (back then I didn't know it was a really low rating, Nowadays I wouldn't pick up anyone below 4.6) , Going home off work. Half way he asked me to stop by a Seven Eleven to deposit his salary into the ATM, Of course he left his backpacks in the car. After five minutes, He came back and told me the ATM inside Seven Eleven wasn't working and he had to cross the street to find another ATM. This time he was gone for a good ten minutes. Finally he came back, I drove him home and zero tip.

Go back and find his trip and re-rate him to 1 star. That is bad behavior on his part.

I like the idea of leaving their crap there. Text them after a few say you have to leave, then just leave their stuff on the sidewalk and film yourself doing it in case there is accusation of theft. I suppose you could also ask them to take their stuff any time they leave the car.

They call that "anchoring" They do it because they know a lot of drivers will take off and leave them.
