first off, I really hope this protest works out. I hope it catches a lot of attention and something good comes out of it. But I don’t think it’s as effective as other protest ideas. Especially something we can easily execute.
Check this out. Multiple drivers plan to hold several slow-rolls.
You have a protest week. You have multiple drivers in multiple areas. The more pedestrians, the better.
You don’t need that many drivers to do this. It could happen anytime.
The trick is that a lot of riders have to find out. The more people know what the purpose of a slow-roll protest (when Uber drivers do it), the better! This is important.
The more drivers that know what’s going on, the better. Like, if a driver on a ride see other Uber drivers doing a slow-roll together in protest, that Uber driver can explain it to their rider what it is.
The more protests like this that can happen, the more often, the better. You have a thousands of drivers in a city at any given hour. Imagine the congestion we could cause. We have power in numbers, guys! Come on!
Sitting out? So that the MAJORITY of drivers who won’t have a clue why it’s so much busier on Wednesday can reap the benefits? They’ll constantly be getting pings. Drivers from the burbs are gonna come to the city to cash in on the surges and ping frequency.
One day?? Come on guys. So, rider’s will have to use Lyft that day and pay a surge for one day... you think that’s gonna really hurt Chicagoans to really worry about how much we get paid?
You think chicago riders give a crap what we make? Seriously? They know if we get a rate increase, that means their ride is going to get more expensive. They think we get a big chunk of what they’re paying. Ask them! They don’t know uber takes about a 40-45% cut. They think if the ride is more expensive, that we will be getting more for that ride.
No matter what you say, riders are majority younger than 40.... I’d say maybe even younger than 35! Millennials. The one generation after the Cold War that is greatly (and foolishly) endorsing socialism as a method to solve inequities. They don’t care that Uber takes a 40% cut. Are you kidding? They want uber to offer insurance and make us employees. That’s so dumb. If they begin offering insurance, do you think that 40% cut is gonna increase or decrease??
The media isn’t gonna push this. theyre In the pockets of the politicians like A Beale, who does take taxi cab lobby money. They push laws to hurt us. Why? Uber came around and made a lot of pockets lighter so those lighter pockets aren’t giving up without a fight. Lobbying to increase regulations on Uber to hurt it will not stop.
Y’all don’t understand? We have the wrong guy. There more to this than just “Uber is bad because they’re so rich and the drivers aren’t making more than $100K/year for a low-skilled job.”
It’s not us vs uber... it’s us against the government.
The more people driving Uber (a job with no growth opportunity) as a side gig or full-time job, the less politicians have to worry about bringing jobs here and cutting costs on everyday people. The more they have people distracted, the better.
If we all held a rally or signed a petition where we pledged our votes in response to a candidate’s promises or held a politician responsible, I PROMISE YOU THINGS WOULD CHANGE TOMORROW.
Way better chance of changing things that way. That’s just how it is. They’re after power. You dangle your vote in front of their faces and they’ll drown in their friggin saliva!!
