...stop doing Uber before happy hour starts.

Drunks are frigging babies and if your not there to pick them up they one star your ass. Heck they even one star your ass because they are just trying to get past the screen that rates the last ride.

They don't understand that perhaps your busy on another trip.

They don't care about that you've been up since 5 am.

All they care about is getting you personally to take them home.

So to avoid the drunks, don't even take them to the bars, cut your fscking app off before 4 pm and tell Uber to go fsck themselves.

They could fix this, make the drunk type out why they have an issue, but they don't care.

Then Uber gives all the new 5.0 rated customers to the highest rated driver in the area.

Yea, the ones that don't work after 4 pm.

So collectively let's fsck both of them, the drunks and Uber for being stupid.

Because we all know you can't fix stupid. 😆

When you drive the bar closing shift you occasionally have to come out and drive in the normal world to repair your ratings. Back when we had multiplier surges it was quite profitable to do bar closing. But now it is just putting yourself and your vehicle at an exponentially increased risk for no increase in reward.

Well this is how the drunks are doing things.

They ask if your going to be out to pick them up.

If you say anything but yes, one star and if yes they hold you to it and if your not there, one star.

Aside from the obvious, who gives a crap about ratings? If you are well above 4.6 then you have nothing to worry about and make the same money as a 4.99 driver.

People talk about drunks being hard on ratings, students, poor people, .... and I think it's all crap. I drive the Friday and Saturday late night, I drive near a university, I refuse to do stops (even abandoning people after 2 minutes if I forget to check the ping when I accept and they hid a stop in there) ... and my rating hovers around 4.95. It's not hard even with a crappy van.

I only did bar closings during surges. I let others take them to the bars at non-surge prices. I never had a problem exchanging 1-stars with pax.

You left out the part that you look like Tom Brady's twin brother. That explains your 4.95 rating.

1. Some of us have day jobs so we can't START doing our side gig until 4 or 5pm

2. Some of us don't care about our rating as long as it's not so low that deactivation is a risk.

3. Some of us have mad people skillz and deescalation skillz and know when to hand them the barf bag skillz. **

4. Some of us find it entertaining the silly things drunks do.

5. The money is better at night too.

** Fun fact about #3:

Between 2017 and 2018 I had multiple pukers, four of which literally destroyed the car. Thank God I have leather seats, but wow, gross AF.

Mid 2018 I started carrying hospital grade emesis bags in my glove box.

With over 15k rides between Uber and Lyft, I now know BEFORE you get in the car that you need one, and I hand it to those that do.

ALL PAX I hand it to say "I don't need that".

95% are using it within 60 seconds.

The rest at some point during the ride are using it.

With ONE exception. ONE time someone handed it back to me at the end of the ride, opened the door, and puked outside. Dude was a baller.

The moral of the story is, LEARN your profession. Become an EXPERT. READ YOUR PAX. And don't be afraid. Just deploy the correct countermeasures.

It's like a game.

Since handing out Emesis bags I've had ZERO messes in the car.

Now, that being said, you can drive whatever shift you want... but I love the night shift. It's like a **** uck ing reality show that I get paid to watch.

To each their own!

I've done the night shift for three years in a taxi, so I certainly know what I am doing.

The problem is Uber and not requiring a written complaint of what the problem is I'm order to deter people from giving erroneous one star ratings.

And it's just not the drunks, I've noticed this trend in areas away from my comfort zone.

People just giving out one stars for no apparent reason.

And ratings DO MATTER because Uber sends its best drivers to their best tipping customers and to new customers also.

Now if it's slow, what else can we do but the night shift? Then we get dinged for no reason by drunks and now we don't get the good customers.

The problem is made worse that so many drivers quit doing late night so there is even less drivers and they all get tied up doing other trips.

Uber doesn't even suggest when a car will become available, just says "no cars available"

Like I said, can't fix stupid. 😉

Understood. I'll take the night shift every time. I have that kind of personality though, I vibe with it.

Nice, wishing that were true. Nah, I'm an old guy that puts on a grandpa vibe with the drunk students and I do my best not to get into controversial topics because people are so frail that the will punish you if your opinion doesn't match theirs even if they asked for it.

I have around 3000 rides on Uber and Lyft, and I've never had a puker.

If you want to get a cleaning fee with a drunk in the back, turn up the heat and make jerky driving motions. Make them uncomfortable in every way.

I wouldn't go as far as to call it quits by 4pm as there's usually decent to really good money to be made driving people home from work or to happy hour with very little to no affect on one's rating.

That said I firmly believe it's prudent to call it a day no later than 8pm, not only because of the drunks and/or potential dings to your rating but also to avoid dealing with the sketchier folks that come out at night.

I've said this before and I'll say it again.... anyone who is in no condition to drive home or even walk in a straight line is in no condition to rate their driver.

I’m very kind or understanding with most of my creatures of the night and they actually notice this so tend to raise my ratings compared to some uptight and picky mask obsessed and whatever business travelers. I don’t always bend over backwards for those guys if I think their vibe is off or judgemental, so my experience is just a bit inverse to everyone who is frightened to take party animals. They frequently thank me for it goes something like not being a dick to them like their last 3 drivers. Basically they can tell their drivers hate them. I’m generous with the aux cord or whatever, they end up thanking me a lot for actually being cool towards them. Riders will always sense if you don’t like them. It can go both ways, I’m not that nice to out of towners if they don’t seem that fond of Texans. For me it’s the pit stained suits I don’t really dig nearly as much as my laid back riders. Really depends. I get a lot of tips either way and try to keep it professional up to a point I’m comfortable with otherwise I don’t put on airs with some of these people. This is on XL most of the time too.

Particularly on Uber, riders will 1-* you for any reason and no reason.
I now drive exclusively for Lyft in DFW and make more.
