Dont worry I am already looking for other jobs too that would be willing to hire me based on my own schedule.
You won't find that now.
The time to find that job was about a year ago - two would have been better.
There is layoffs happening now, and will accelerate this year.
If you'd of been working that job that last two years, you might have enough seniority to weather the first round of layoffs.

And, me and a lot of others were telling anyone who'd listen that it was gonna get bad, and we got called alarmists, and chicken-little's.
Well, ok. so this is me telling you that it's gonna get a LOT worse this year.
We had 2.75 MILLION people cross our border this year. I bet half of them can drive a car. What do you think your competition is gonna look like? ... soon. Very soon.

Good luck to you.
and me.

Like I said, in my area electricians are in such short supply that there is a two-week wait to get one over to your house to fix something. There's such a shortage of plumbers that some are starting to charge $500 an hour for their services.
Weird how that's just like the rideshare business, albeit not quite as volatile:
  • When supply outstrips demand, compensation is down relative to other times, AKA off-peak pricing
  • When demand outstrips supply, compensation is up relative to other times, AKA peak pricing
Just a few other industries that use congestion pricing like Uber:
  • Airlines
  • Hotels
  • Car rentals
  • Air BNB
  • Turo
  • Event venues (weddings, parties)

Oh sorry Mr Entitled One, is there any thing else you feel more entitled to than the rest of us? Please remember there are also W-2 jobs that people like you should think about if you have the disipline to follow orders. You haven't been in it long enough or you wouldn't still believe that you can force these companies to treat you like the royalty you seem to think you are.
I worked for these companies that gives w-2 forms and in fact I was getting paid well. And I know the disciplines of these companies very well. Never did Uber at that time. However I dont have much choice now as I have to schedule myself around my son’s schedule and there are not much choices out there for this.

You don't say where "your area" is ... and it's not in your profile. (Are you in Witness Protection Program?), but I find the same thing here in MY area.
Last summer it took me three weeks to get an HVAC guy out to do a half hour job to fix an AC unit; and I really looked hard too.
If I was young there is NO way I'd spend the kind of money you need to spend to get that four year degree in Economics, or Medieval Art. I'd spend half that and go into the trades, or technical fields. Med tech fields (x-ray, cardio lab, surgical tech, echo tech, phlebotomy, pharmacy tech) are EXPLODING with demand, and good pay, and most can be had in six months to a year in training.

It is because there are so many drivers out there Uber/Lyft does not care about us. There are many drivers who drives because they dont have much choice. They donit out of necessity. However there are many who drives just to make extra money even though has enough money or just for hobby or just to spend some time ….etc. For those who are driving not out of necessity, please consider other things as you are causing many drivers who rely on this rideshare companies to bring less needy income to their family. In this case I am sure that both Uber/Lyft will have no choice but treat their drivers fairly out of necessity.
You've got to be kidding...

It's not bullshit, it's a fact. If you cant understand that simple fact and wish to alter reality to fit you imagination then that's up to you.
No, you're wrong. Where did you come up with this?

The name rideshare was picked purposely to be deceptive and sound like what you're describing.

Uber for a long time advertised themselves as "your private driver on demand" Travis goal was to have a ride 3 minutes away from anyone who needed one.

It wasn't designed with carpooling or decreasing congestion in mind.

It was a luxury car service on demand. Uber X came about because lyft copied Ubers model but with regular cars. This pissed of Travis and Uber X was born and its been a race to the bottom 3ver since.

This is WHY it's gotten approval at higher levels of government overriding local taxi monopolies.
😆 🤣 😂 🤡

Exactly, Uber was first, founded 13 years ago. Lyft 10 years ago.

There are two markets, the high end which is small and extremely profitable.

Then there is the broader market which is numerous and can be profitable.

Any CEO worth a damm has a degree in business and marketing and they know a successful company has to dominate BOTH markets or else a competitor establishes themselves in the broader market and then takes over the smaller high end market.

However to not be broken up as a monopoly by the government (like AT&T) Uber needed a competitor. So was leaving the door open for Lyft or anyone else.

Uber was doing the smart thing, establishing themselves first in the high end market with their Black Car service while waiting for a competitor before launching in the broader market.

So for Uber, better to have a small struggling competitor than no competitor.

It's Lyft that's initiated the run to the bottom, to the point of potential bankruptcy, to try to gain market share, and Ubers been nearly matching them to keep them in check. They could easily blow Lyft right out of the water if they wanted.

Did you know Steve Jobs, upon his return to Apple Computer, actually got seed money from Bill Gates at Microsoft, Apple's chief competitor? Why? Because Microsoft was in danger of being broken up as a monopoly in the desktop OS market. Apple Computer mistakenly tied its Mac OS to their hardware and Microsoft allowed theirs for any Intel PC compatible computer and flooded the broader market. Apple's Mac OS market share is in the single digits today while Windows is over 90%. Apple is only alive now by milking the rich and the iPhone and they are very profitable too.

What I am trying to say here that if you have a job already that pays you lets say 100K, why working for a little extra while there are others in need for that extra. A household is a different story because everybody needs to make their own money - specially in today’s word where divorce’s are common and you wont get a job easily if you are unemployed for long time. But I see your point here
I get what you’re saying, but instead of being mad at the drivers be mad at the companies for continually signing people up when we have more than enough vehicles.

Apple is alive, not only because of the iPhone but because of their products and services as well. Uber and Lyft can take a page out of Apple’s playbook. think about how much money Apple makes on all the accessories that they sell and products like Apple Music, Apple fitness and Apple TV. They have people on a subscription plan. They probably don’t even use the services every month. This is Tim Cook’s strategy for the foreseeable future. They’re even talking about a subscription-based iPhone.

Lyft very much fathoms itself as an Apple. Even required drivers once to get pax to sit up front and high five them, just like Apple does. App is all fruity colors etc. Lyft milks the rich too, just like Apple, why drivers are not told what a pax paid.

Ah yes. Obviously you don't know much about taxis and their collaboration with local governments because Uber was OUTLAWED in many areas of Florida to protect the local rackets but the governor overruled them saying they can't discriminate against a new business model.

There is likely more we are not privy too, but I think it has a lot to do with that little Apple created electronic babysitter called a smartphone and the NSA. Now Big Brother can know where everyone ridesharing is going when before in traditional taxis and cash they cant. Just another drop in our privacy.

Well I really do not need the money but I want the money and besides I’m bored at home. I use the extra money for over priced meals and my daughters vet bill for her cat and wifey gets a cut also plus my Amazon addiction airline addiction and four star hotel addiction.

Those sparkly golden sequin boots? Do you let your wife wear them when you're working? 😁
No. He makes HER wear them when SHE's 'working'.

** Tell her I said 'sorry' for stiffing (pun intended) her on 'the tip'. I'll tip her in the ap next time.
