So a month or 2 back, Dara made a publicity stunt where he was an Uber driver for an hour and he mentioned how "hard" it actually is or whatever. Point being that they were updating the app.

Well it's been rolling out now, and I'm one of the lucky saps to get it first. These are my experiences after a day. I use an Android. iPhone may vary in view and function.

When you update, this is the first thing you'll see.

Update and run the app on wifi with a strong internet connection. One hiccup, and this is your Uber home screen until you crash it and restart it. It took me 30 minutes to get thru this screen. YMMV. It's supposed to download your info onto the new app.

Once you finally get the Uber app running again, you'll be greeted with this:

Product Font Screenshot Technology Multimedia

Your ugly mug goes on the top right corner.

The other blanks are the main road names. Scratched out for identification purposes.

The app will try to give you a basic rundown of how the features are sorted but in typical Uber fashion, hide the important information. So here's how things work now:

The magnifying glass is where you set DF. It will no longer tell you how many you have so be wise. If you used one in the morning after midnight, you have one left for the day. DF is not tied to the workweek and doesn't reset at 4am.

Where the money amount is in the middle is where your last trip amount is. It's also where you can see your quest, how much you made in the day and in the week.

Your ugly mug picture is where your ratings are but also your Uber account settings as well. For those with Uber eats accounts, you turn that on and off in the lower right corner. You jump thru 2 menu options to get there.

Now for what people care about:

Surges

Surge zones are shaded differently.

Daytime:
World Ecoregion Map Product Line

Nighttime:

Light Font Line Sky Technology

Nightime surge shade is worse, you cannot tell exactly what the surge shade is. No longer is it a hexagon with the surge multiplier in it. If you zoom, this is what happens:

Map Slope Font Line Parallel

Map Slope Parallel Circle Font

Notice the difference between the first picture and the other. There's no distinction between 2.1x, 2.2x. 2.0x, 1.9x, etc. We're expected to learn what each shade may yield.

The ratings are a bit different now, it's no longer a percentage but a number of your last 500 trips. Now you get to know how many 5 stars, 4 stars, etc you have.

Individual earnings are harder to see, it's all lumped together. You have to go thru hoops to get to the individual trip breakdown page.

Any other questions i can answer as well.

My general advice: Don't update your Uber app.

???? This looks like a beta app leak. Happened to me once when I was in Baltimore then came back. Had this weird thing with the navigation actually looked pretty cool with 3d buildings. Did a quick hard reset on my phone uninstalled the app and reinstalled it. Back to normal. Also this happened in March of 2017.

Edit: incase you didn’t want to participate with the beta programming and you get it. This is how I got rid of it on iOS.

Can you still Google maps or Waze? Or it forces to use uber nav?

In my market the destination filter resets at midnight

Well, at least on Android, you can revert the app back to the previous version.
If you don't like the new app, revert it back to the old driver app until Uber forces you to use the new one
For those of us that aren't terribly tech-savvy and are Surge/DF harlots, how?

Guys , it does not work that way. You can just choose to use the old one because you don’t want the new one. It is just a matter of time that you MUST UPGRADE.
You can wait and see for as long you can get away with it but you MUST LEARN the new app or eventually you will be out of the game.
I recommend you try to learn it now that you have some time , specially if you are not IT savvy.
Try to watch the videos and the “ how to” on you tube and UBER website.

Might be beta, might not be. This is the same app showcased in the Dara goes for a drive video. Incidentally, I got that email today. I'll read it later and see what happens.

I'll play around with it during the weekend and see what happens. I honestly think we're all going to eventuality get this version if the app.

I use Waze and it still allows the use of Waze but my last 2 trips had issues tracking the miles. I got paid time only for one, which I later had the miles added on, another trip showed me getting there linearly. I'll see if the problem continues.

I think this is the new official app so I'll ride with this bullet wound to experiment with it.

I noticed that the Weekly Reports (ratings) stopped updating in the middle of April.
This is the page that used to show a breakdown, by week, for the past previous months,
of how many stars you got on your rides (and how many rides were rated that week etc.)

Did they bring it back in the new app?
Nope. I'll do more screenshots sometime this weekend. Writing all that on a phone is tedious work.

if you have any question call customer "support" and ask for Bob Rohit. He won't tell what he's talking about because he doesn't have a clue. He will, however, tell you that Uber expects all riders to treat their drivers with respect and courtesy and that it takes seriously all reports of abuse by riders. He will then inform you that if the problem continues, you should uninstall then re-install the app. He will conclude by informing you that you should not hesitate to contact driver "support" if you have any further questions

There are few ways to do this....

Option 1

1- download APK Extractor or similar app that extracts .apk file
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ext.ui&hl=en_US

2- Extract the current Uber Driver app .apk file to SD card or a location on your phone(before you update to the new version)
3- Update the driver app...
4 if you don't like the new update, uninstall the new updated app first (because android will not let you downgrade an app version while it's installed already)
5 Go to your previous extracted .apk file, and install it. It will ask you to enable "install unknown software" option in setting if you haven't enabled it.

Option 2

1- you can download a previous version .apk files from this website
https://www.apk4fun.com/history/28009/
2- beware that this website has a lot of annoying ads and re-directions to annoying websites
3 - if you download the .apk from a website like above, just follow the 4th and 5th step from option 1

for iOS, I assume that there is a similar way, but I am unsure about it.

I saw that email. Honestly, it was so bad it was delaying my trip payments. Surge multiplier is hidden as well.

I managed to go back to the normal app but haven't updated yet out of fear to get that monstrosity. It's only advantage was knowing how many ants at both airports. The current one isn't as good for that.

Update at your risk since you could be chosen for beta testing.

This is why I don't update apps automatically.

Not just Uber but most apps the updates FUBAR everything then you have to get another update to fix the previous update.
