So a month or 2 back, Dara made a publicity stunt where he was an Uber driver for an hour and he mentioned how "hard" it actually is or whatever. Point being that they were updating the app.
Well it's been rolling out now, and I'm one of the lucky saps to get it first. These are my experiences after a day. I use an Android. iPhone may vary in view and function.
When you update, this is the first thing you'll see.
Update and run the app on wifi with a strong internet connection. One hiccup, and this is your Uber home screen until you crash it and restart it. It took me 30 minutes to get thru this screen. YMMV. It's supposed to download your info onto the new app.
Once you finally get the Uber app running again, you'll be greeted with this:
Your ugly mug goes on the top right corner.
The other blanks are the main road names. Scratched out for identification purposes.
The app will try to give you a basic rundown of how the features are sorted but in typical Uber fashion, hide the important information. So here's how things work now:
The magnifying glass is where you set DF. It will no longer tell you how many you have so be wise. If you used one in the morning after midnight, you have one left for the day. DF is not tied to the workweek and doesn't reset at 4am.
Where the money amount is in the middle is where your last trip amount is. It's also where you can see your quest, how much you made in the day and in the week.
Your ugly mug picture is where your ratings are but also your Uber account settings as well. For those with Uber eats accounts, you turn that on and off in the lower right corner. You jump thru 2 menu options to get there.
Now for what people care about:
Surges
Surge zones are shaded differently.
Daytime:
Nighttime:
Nightime surge shade is worse, you cannot tell exactly what the surge shade is. No longer is it a hexagon with the surge multiplier in it. If you zoom, this is what happens:
Notice the difference between the first picture and the other. There's no distinction between 2.1x, 2.2x. 2.0x, 1.9x, etc. We're expected to learn what each shade may yield.
The ratings are a bit different now, it's no longer a percentage but a number of your last 500 trips. Now you get to know how many 5 stars, 4 stars, etc you have.
Individual earnings are harder to see, it's all lumped together. You have to go thru hoops to get to the individual trip breakdown page.
Any other questions i can answer as well.
My general advice: Don't update your Uber app.
