I ordered food from Uber eats today. I haven't ordered in about a year, but Uber had emailed me with a promo and it was too good to pass up.
I ordered from a place about a mile away. That means the driver was paid about $2.90 - $3.00. she spent about 23 minutes from the time I ordered to the time she arrived. So she was grossing about $8.75 an hour.
Nice latino lady. No complaints. And yes, I gave her a nice tip. Cash.
She had my food in a hot bag in the front seat. And a baby in the back seat.
It's 90 degrees out there. What does she do with the baby when she picks up the food and when she delivers it? You can't leave a baby in a car in this heat.
Uber knows this goes on. They know people are desperate. Yet, they facilitate this madness and keep lowering the pay.
It makes me sick.
For those of you that think this is funny, I hope something bad happens to you. And I don't mean driving for Uber. This isn't funny. We live in a very troubled time when companies can exploit people like this with impunity.
