Well here's a story I never wanted to tell... tonight I was assaulted by an Uber passenger & crashed my car.
Picked up just after 1am on 5th & Olive in Banker's Hill... two guys, one older (50's?) male who called the ride and his younger (late 20's?) friend who was sitting on the ground when I showed up. My gut said cancel the ride.
Turned right on Palm and right on Sixth and the younger guy in the back seat starts puking out the window. We haven't even gone two blocks, so clearly these guys aren't getting a ride for 10 minutes. I pull over and tell them to exit the vehicle. The guy in the back seat is still puking, and the guy in the front seat doesn't move.
"Please exit the vehicle or I will have to call the police."
Still nothing. Sterner now.
"Exit the vehicle or I'm calling 9-1-1."
The rider finally says "Fine, call 9-1-1." I reach over and open his door to hopefully show him this is not a joke, and he beligerantly accuses me of touching him.
"Don't touch me!" and he throws a fist at me.
"Alright, alright!" I exclaim trying to get him to calm down. It doesn't work. He starts yelling and screaming and increases his blows to the side of my head, and I realize he's gone off the deep end. Seeing very few options, I unbuckle my seatbelt and bolt out the door trying to get away from this crazy person. As I start running to find a nearby house to call the cops, I see my car rolling away as it was still in drive, a crash imminent.
Some asshole in a nearby houses denies my plea to call 9-1-1, so I flag down a car and a guy helps me call 9-1-1. He takes me back over to my car where the guys have fled the vehicle, which is stopped against a wall with substantial damage. Police are on the scene.
I get my phone from the car and see the Uber app is still on trip, so I am able to give the officer the name of the man that assaulted me. While cops search the area for the suspect, I suggest to the lead that we can call him from my phone. He doesn't think the guy will answer, but we try... and another cop finds the guy's phone in my car, alongside one of the guy's shoes. Assault-erella.
My car is driveable but has minor damage on the bumper and major damage to the passenger side mirror and rear door. Looks like I'll be sitting on the sidelines for awhile.
Luckily, this guy's punch is about as strong as his intelligence. I have a few bumps from the 5-10 hits I took, but I'll be fine.
So... how was everyone else's Thursday night?!
