Hello Forum Friends:

I drove Uber all of 2016 full time and did close to 3000 rides Uber X and XL. Avoided Pool like the plague. Never submitted any people as Uber Drivers for rewards (kept my integrity)

Things were not bad first half of 2016 with good bonuses and got a lot worse as the year went on.

Then came New Years Eve 2016 (I had also done NYE 2015). It was such a disaster that I was ready to quit. Did a couple more weekends in January then called it quits--couldn't make even decent weekend money. Removed my Uber stickers this week.

What I learned from my experience as a driver & learning about Uber:

1) I have a startup business. I should have stayed focused entirely on it and never done Uber. Would not have lost a year with my business since honestly I was too tired to do the work I should have done on my business in 2016 due to all my driving.

2) Uber is a poorly run company and lost $2 billion in 2016. Don't think it will every be profitable. They can't stay focused and treats drivers like dirt. I've worked at some large companies like HP and Boeing--which are incredibly better places to work--to name a few. Travis is a jerk and represents what is wrong with Uber. Uber will be dead in five years.

3) A few drivers might make money but it's getting tougher and tougher for the average Joe. There are better ways to make a living--even at McDonalds.

4) Most people are very nice. Only remember about 10-15 really lousy pacs out of several thousand. Encouraged me about the average person out there.

5) Pax Ratings often suck. People can submit complaints for no reason. Uber sides with Pax most of the time.

So for all of you still Ubering I have one recommendation which I hope you will take seriously:

GET OUT. YOU ARE WASTING YOUR LIVES UBERING. UBER HAS NO RESPECT FOR DRIVERS & WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE CONTINUOUSLY WORSE AND LESS PROFITABLE. DON'T PUT UP WITH IT. DO SOMETHING BETTER--YOU WILL ENJOY YOUR LIFE MORE

Good Luck and Blessings to all of you.

What I don't understand about people making this a career, what is the end game? Retire as an uber driver? Even if the money was good and had 401k and all the good stuff, I don't enjoy the work at all. I had more satisfaction working at a grocery store for min wage. The flexibility is the only thing that is keeping me around.

Best of lucks on your new company!!
I just don't understand why people always want to take people with them when they quit and they are leaving, it is funny how that works, it would be very strange to see post saying " I started doing "x" and after a month I am loaded, you all should come and do it too so we all get wealthy" noooo when it goes well, everyone remain silent by if it goes bad for you it is the typical " Hey this zucks let's go guys, let's all get out of here because for me it is not working" So you assume that since you are not making it, of course all the rest are not making it too. An please I am not talking about anyone in particular since most of us do the same, so again Good luck Martin and the same way that you kindly advice us now about this bad enterprise if you succeed with your company, please come and create another post letting us know so we all quit Uber and go do what you are doing and get good as you ;)

PS: I am not defending Uber, I mean we all know it is terrible and that we have to drive 3 times more than before to make less, it is just that I find funny how it is always like that, no matter what kind of business you are on, the one leaving always will try to drag someone along :D

I think it's a human nature kind of thing. One part, Hey, am I crazy here, or is this the worst thing that has ever happened? Another part, FU company....I'm gonna pay you back a bit for messing up my life some...

Sad to see you go but believe or not, Uber will get better if more drivers quit. It's like if there was one less person to share a pizza with, everyone else would get a bigger piece. That's how it is. And Uber is definitely not losing money in 2017. Actually, they were already making money in the US last year. They lost money in China but they sold their China branch last year already. Good luck with your small business.
