I used to drive Uber. I fell for the ads on the radio. It didn't work, so I moved on. I'm so happy that I did. A few days ago, I needed to go to LAX, so I took an Uber. I used to take cabs when I went to LAX. A cab was $32, and then the tip. Call it $37, because I usually dropped a $5 on the guy. Now, I request an Uber, and they tell me "upfront pricing" that the ride is $13. I know there is a LAX fee of 4 or 5 dollars. Take the Uber "safe-rider" fee off of that, and then the 25% Uber cut. I think that driver got $6. From the time I requested, to the time he dropped me off was 35+ minutes. He got $6. Then he had to exit LAX and get in the que, or go out of the area, and wait for a ping. Either way, he got $6 for the better part of an hour. I did drop a $5 on him, but still...

Uber is ruining peoples lives. They buy/lease cars thinking they can earn a decent living, and then they are trapped into driving 16-18 hours a day just to make the payments.

I remember the commercial that hooked me. The guy said "I work part time for Uber, and I make more than my old full-time job"..... Wow. What a lie.

Uber is ruining peoples lives. Every time I take an Uber, I talk to the drivers, and they all agree. They all hate it.

Uber never met the expectations they advertised, and the drivers are worse-off after working for Uber.

At least I know to always tip my driver..... That poor sap........

Get out while you can. Uber never worked. It was (is) always a losing proposition.

I used to ride the surge, but that isn't feasible anymore.
While it was harder in winter I was still able to make a decent amount each week. During spring and summer it is a lot better obviously. Point being being that you can make a good chunk still driving X. This thread is mostly directed at the ants who make up the majority of the UBER driving force and coincidentally do not frequent this site haha

He's right. Take uber for their $500 referral as many times as you can as you get out ASAP. I wouldn't be surprised if Travis was only meeting with trump to buy time and pitch the fake dream. Well he doesn't have a spot at the trough anymore, and the self driving cars are not going to happen when they are painting bike lanes.

The only way it could work would be if they paid drivers more, raised rates, and eliminated pool or make it optional. Their biggest mistake was trying to make it something available to everybody by making cheap options. They could start with a $25 min and first so many miles for free - let the unused free miles roll over for the pax. Then we can make uber great again!

Have to agree with OP

Did the PT thing back in 2014 and had no issues til rates were cut and simultaneously the culture shifted to the point that would only drive surge 2x at minimum and Lyft. And that's when rates were higher than today. No way is it worth my time, effort and brain cells to put up with uber bs and pax, & even if they raised rates not worth it.

It's like having a hot girlfriend who gets fat and turns into a raving abusive lunatic. No way am I sticking around

There is a way, you did stick around and she wasn't even that hot to begin with.

And stop crying already. She'll come back eventually.

Uber is NOT like a fat hot lunatic girlfriend... those can be FUN.

And plenty of happy endings first, before the never-after
