For those who know me and those who don't .
I've been driving uber for the past 3 years , and I'm the FIRST one to about fuber wrong doings ..

But ... All the threads and speculations and calculations about hourly guarantee pay vs. medal pay ... I call BS

listen , I'm on hourly for few good weeks now .. And yes some nights are better then the other ... But there i have NO PROBLEM getting pings even though I'm on "hourly" promo ...

I drive select .. And sometimes I switch to x when it's surging or when I just feel I need a little shake n bake instead idling ... Boom I get plenty of uber x pings !!!
I mean it ... And once again ... I'd be happy to hop on the wagon of at uber ...

But all u professors are doing the wrong math !!!

Oh wait ... I'm getting stacked x pings in ... The valley ......

Ugh ... What is the lesson we learned today class ???

Pings in core la ? Nooooo
Pings elsewhere ? Yesssss

Good class , good ..

What needs to happen to make y'all understand that all u gotta do is open the damn passenger app and compare areas with ants before u head there ?

I've seen spreadsheets .. People come up here and say their friends and cousins tried to ping them blah blah ...

Guys guys guys ... Yes uber manipulate where the pings go to ... At times ... BUT it has nothing to do with the different promos !

Don't believe me ? Try it to yourself leave core la and make sure u are not surrounded by ants and u are gewd ta go !

And btw... I had few select pings this week from 10 min away ... And I immediately opened the passenger app to see if there's closer select cars to the ping and yes they were ... But I still got it ! And I'm on hourly .. Not medal ... And no my rating isn't 4.9

Because of this, do you tend to always rate pax 5 stars then?
Try it for two weeks and come back and let us know if you have noticed an increase or decrease in pings.

You can be the judge. You'll know first hand. No reason to ask me what I do. You have the power and ability to figure out if it's true.

Two weeks. Give every passenger 5*'s then come back and let us know if it has helped your quantity of pings.

Right back at you avocado. Your thread has no substantiated proof. Just a bunch of hearsay from a handful of drivers that think they have some conspiracy theory.
What they really need are head Meds to curb the paranoia.
No paranoia. No conspiracy. We are reporting our experiences, there is proof as listed in the post, and there are no hourlies/non-incentives reporting consistent pings. Sample size is small, but with nobody reporting otherwise, you wonder. Go ahead and get on hourly for this Tue-Thurs and post your results. You could be a great case study.

Lol>>> "There is no proof, we only have 15 people here saying they get back to back pings, and 15 others saying they have to wait 1 hour to get the ping."
Ya, that's the proof bro.

Please don't comment if you're not informed. Those saying they are receiving back to back pings are on the metal incentives. The others, are reporting the opposite and are on hourly/non-incentive.

Same hourly guys have been posting on threads for about 2 months and things change overnight for everyone. There is lot of credibility behind this theory.
Look at Uber's API coding for ride requests AKA pings... There is no parent parameter or conditions applied. The system matches you based on the following arguments. Location is number 1. Now, a user doing something to make their location closer to the pax, their status of being "online" (onFare=1 or onFare=0) more than another driver could happen but that doesn't mean Uber is playing favorites. Those are different variables unrelated to pings.

POST /v1/requests

Someone define "most efficient available driver" please.

As opposed to "closest".

He's supporting and confirming your own point.

Didn't understand your response. I was actually saying that that IS the proof. 15 people is more than enough to understand pings are rigged. But I read people writing "there's no proof, it's only 15 people bla bla..."

Ahh, my bad for the lack of understanding.
As a new driver, (yesterday was my 5th day) I can honestly say that I have NEVER had to wait for a ping. Ever. Which I found strange, and still do actually, because when I first came to this forum there were a million people complaining about this. (okay maybe three).

I currently still have a 5 star rating (after only 83 lifetime rides so I'm sure this will change soon), but (and I'm going to get roasted on here right now) I ALWAYS rate riders 5 stars because I haven't had any horrible people in my car, in fact they've all been really nice. Again, I'm new and naive, I'm sure I'll be on here in a months time lamenting about my horrible riders, etc. etc.

So my point is, I was driving in core, well back and forth to west hollywood burbank, van nuys/sherman oaks area all weekend and was kept very busy, in fact half the day I was on two trips as I dropped a pax off. I should state information that should be obvious, I have no metals and no incentives.

Edit: meaning I was going from Van Nuys to Core, Core to sherman oaks, Sherman oaks back to core, etc. etc.

I only get pings in the core during incentive hours if it's surging. As soon as I leave the core, I get non-stop pings.

I think you're overvaluing your data. A sample of 15 non randomly chosen subjects out of a group of thousands hardly counts as anything but grumbling. I worked hourly this week and got pings for the hours I wanted to work. I did NOT push the issue though so when my time was up I went home instead of gambling. I think that hourly game is best played from the front because catching up doesn't look easy.

I will say this, this week I had by far the longest trips I've had since I started. Where usually they're about $10/ride (not counting surge or any add-on, just the base rate,) last week I was about $14/ride. I hadn't even has a week where it was $12/ride. It doesn't sound like all that much but it's 40% longer than the average

Like you said ,you are new, that's why you are getting pings. Fuber will give keep you busy in the beginning so that you will think that you are going to make a lot of money and start working full time. Wait until you work part time only ,You will be fine if you are on gold or platinum, but if you read all the threads in the forum is about the part time drivers doing the HOURLY guarantees, so is either you are in or out.
Good for you! I was wondering about you
Thanks Tedgey! Yeah, it's been pretty fun, I have to say!

I know I am a little late to this thread...

I posted a survey; something that could quantify all the assumptions. Admittedly, this Forum would not constitute a pure random sample, but it would have been enough to validate if further research into the matter is necessary.

That said, the members of this forum were too lazy to complete it.

So I gave up. Funny how they have time to ***** and moan; but when somebody who has studied Quantitative Analysis in college, and applied it to work, wants to get to the bottom of it, nobody has the time to complete the survey.

So the Hourly vs Metals will remain anecdotal...

I disagree. I think this forum is so far from a random sample I just don't think any real benefit could be found. I'm sure you're aware of how important random sampling is and drawing data from this forum only would be the textbook example of why it's so. After all, virtually everyone here already has an opinion or theory on the subject. Plenty have an axe to grind. And nobody has any systematically collected data to share anyway. And not for nothing, but I saw your survey and, well...

I think if we really want to know, Uber's open source (sort of). Find somebody who knows what the hell they're talking about and ask them to read the code.
