How did this only now become news? This is no secret.
The media really is slow to report things.
uber has been doing that in every new market they entered since they started.
We now know that Uber has been running a mobile spy function within the rider/driver app. The treachery and dishonesty of this company is boundless and more importantly the capture of personal data is frightening. The creation of Learning Algorithms by Uber to mine large data has societal consequences to both individual data privacy and individual safety.

The tracking and surveillance of any of Uber's digital products must be monitored and investigated now and also on a ongoing basis. The time has come for Uber to be regulated and to respect CANADIAN CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS.

In this case, I actually have to side with Uber.

Regardless of legalities or not, the people using the app to entrap drivers were breaking the TOS of the app.

So in reality Uber has no responsibility to let its app entrap drivers. If bylaw enforcement wants to ticket drivers.... go for it.

Just don't expect Uber to help you do so.

I'm 100% okay with Uber using technology to prevent bylaw officers from ticketing drivers. Nobody should be expected to voluntarily incriminate themselves.

Just the thought of a bylaw officer doing an undercover sting makes me laugh. When I think about it, I picture some fat guy who settled with city bylaw because he couldn't get into policing. The guy probably gets in anUber thinking he is Sherlock Holmes only to give some Uber driver living in poverty a massive ticket because they had the audacity to try and earn a living.
