Most get 4-stars. I reserve 5-stars for pax that tip. I had not given a 5 star for weeks...

Until last Tuesday, I accidentally gave a 5-star to a lady. She and a guy get into the car, we start chatting, and she asks what his name is. A bunch of scenarios are going through my head at that moment, so I ask, and she explains that she just met him at the bus stop there and she asked what time the bus was due (it wasn't for a while) and he wasn't going far (up the road a few blocks) so she offered to let him ride in her Uber. I thought that was rather nice. After we dropped him off she mentioned she was a bartender and that it was so slow today that she just ended shift early and went out with friends. She seemed genuinely nice (from our conversation) and after the ride I accidentally gave her 5-stars. The worst part is, if I ever pick up bartenders or waitresses that don't tip they automatically start at 2-stars (most get 1 star because I end up waiting 5+ minuets for them at 3 in the morning). I considered changing the rating for the pax, but just let it be...

I've seriously never heard a more pointless "protest" in my life.

Uber monitors every thing you do and you think they don't pay attention to a driver that gives out endless 1 stars. They probably remove you from the ratings system lol.

If that isn't the case, I'm pretty sure if you 1-star you don't get matched with that rider again. So you're making it even harder for yourself.

So keep 1-starring like a chump and shrinking your user base and eventually you can sit around waiting for zero pings from all the 1-star ratings you have given.

Or if you really want to make a self serving and meaningful protest you will just stop driving and find a new way to make money.

Giving pax 4 stars for not tipping is the same as pax giving drivers 4 for not having water.
That's the way it should be. Everyone thinks average ride is 5. It should be 3. Otherwise how do you recognize going above and beyond? If you give 5 to non tippers then they are not being recognized for their generosity and are also not benefiting from it. I agree when we technically speaking were not supposed to accept tips I would 5 star non tippers. Now only tippers are reserved for the 5 star status.

We need to be uniform in at least that to change the culture. If riders want to 4 star us for not having water so be it. Though maybe taking a ride in a taxi at more than double the cost with no water will be the only refreshing thing they really need. X upfront in basically pool without sharing a ride. It's low end service. Be ready for the rider get in with only what you can carry. Direct route to your destination and get out. No nonsense.
