I know they like to lose $3 billion dollars a year but how do they do it?! Do they have parties where they flush money down toilets or do they burn cash to stay warm during winter?
Disclaimer: all numbers were pulled out of my butt unless link is provided
Income:
Generated $5.5 billion revenue in 2016, funded $3.5 billion from saudi arabia (where women aren't allowed to drive.), + 1 billion debt financing from morgan stanley.
Expenses:
They lost $3 billion this means they spent a total of $8.5 billion
They hardly spend any money on support. The app upkeep and development is a legitimate expense, but still 1200 engineers is excessive for an app that took less than 40 to develop...
I know people will say it's referral & new signup bonuses, but if the 100 ride requirement average $15 = uber will get $2.30 booking fee + 25% of (15-2.30)= $3.18. So Uber will get approximately 100 x $5.48 = $548 to offset whatever the referral bonus is at that time. I'm still sure that they lose a lot of money getting new drivers.
So if Uber generated $5.5 Billion from their 25% cut this means Drivers gross total of fares was about $22 billion. If each driver generated $50,000 this means there were 440,000 drivers. (this is somewhat close to the 370,000 in 2015)
if EVERY SINGLE ONE of the 440,000 drivers received a $2,000 bonus this = $880 million
say miscellaneous uber lawsuits / fines and legal fees = $1 billion
insurance, logo, vehicle & doc inspections, background checks = 1 billion
they have 6700 employees, say each of them make 250k = $1.675billion
other expenses ? leather jackets?? sexual harassment seminars? = $$$4,000,000,000
