Hourly Guarantees - "Completion Rate"

Uber Melbourne has increased the guaranteed hourly rate in Melbourne till September 20 which is great. You should be earning more than the guarantee, but it's a nice insurance for a string of unusually quiet periods. I see in my payment statement this week I didn't qualify for not meeting the "completion rate" of 90%.

So despite meeting the 1.5 trip per hour and 90% acceptance rate requirements, I am not entitled to the guarantee because of failing to meet a condition that is published nowhere. Nowhere on the page (http://drive.uber.com/melbourne/uberx/melxincentives/) does it mention a completion rate requirement.

I assume completion rate is the percentage of trips that are accepted but not "cancelled by driver". Sometimes I will accept a trip and then cancel after realising the pick up is more than 5KM away or more than 10 minutes away, or on a notoriously difficult street to find a safe spot to stop (Lygon Street for example).

Anyone else in a similar position? I am over the guarantee anyway but it would be nice to know these things in advance.

I always assumed that cancelling after accepting was counted as not accepting. It makes sense in any case.

My acceptance rates are way down now anyway since I never accept anyone below 4.5 and I follow a similar pattern to yours regarding cancelling for excessive distance and complex routes.

Yeah, I never chased those incentives. I read about them, but we don't tout for passengers, so we can't really control who hails us. And if we don't get 1.5 rides in an hour, we don't qualify, right? Anyway, that's what I read it as meaning...

I know a few drivers who received a sms over the past few weeks warning them about their completion rates!

At a guess Uber is starting to look at drivers who accept and cancel requests in order to keep a high acceptance rate.

I have also had a few riders tell me that drivers have called them to tell them to cancel, so that the driver doesn't have to do it (smart move)

I do a mix of ignore requests, accept and cancels and accept and not move from where I am parked, which leads the customer to either call and then cancel or just cancel. If I am parked in South Melbourne waiting for a fare, I am not going to drive 15+ minutes to Carlton to pick up someone which will likely be a $6-$10 fare of which I make $5-$8 for 30 mins work!

I do not accept requests that are 4.6 stars or below as they are generally annoying riders (no destination, wants to give directions, want to go around all the back streets, asks for mints/water/chocolates etc) however I will accept 1, 2, 3, 4 or 3.5, 4,5 stars as those customers have generally only had 1 or 2 rides with Uber before

I provide a clean safe and comfortable ride and that is it. However during surge fares if the fare is more than $15 I'll offer to change the radio/music and also offer water that I have in the glovebox. I'll also change the radio/music and offer water on any fare more than $25 with no surge, such as airport trips and outer suburb trips as the cost of water 0.25c per bottle is okay on these

Hi gOOr - you are possibly the only person in Australia that is in a position to see the big and real picture across the board for us all .....
Without breaching any concept of confidentiality on an individual basis are you in a position to make any general statements on the uber / general ride sharing industry overall and financially ?
Would be greatly appreciated to get a professional and unbiased viewpoint for a change ..
Thanks SSDD

@glados you really are naive .... you spout spin and bullshit from a "theoretical" or textbook viewpoint.

You make broad sweeping statements without backing them up with real life experience as a. UBER X Driver... the only reference point i have read that you have ever given is Uber Web sites, Uber financed surveys, and general Uber propaganda.... and yet when others post counter opinions and use media surveys ...you dismiss them as biased and weighted to give the desired outcome. ...

You , young lady, are akin to a religious zealot that quotes extracts from doctrine "as if it is fact" ....

Just ask a Scientologist, or a Moonie, or a Jim Jones devotee, or a Westboro Baptist Hate Church member.....they all have something in common with you ... blind, misguded faith in "the word of the leader"

I've said it before and backed it up with images, during incentive or guaranteed hours your request times and distances raise substancially in the hope you'll either not accept and fall below the requirements or the good thing for Uber is passengers will most likely get collected no matter how far away they are from the driver making it barely profitable let alone adequate compensation for the time invested.
