Hey Drivers who come down to OC...

Hey MD drivers. So I live in OC and I've gotten several complaints from PAX about drivers coming and working in OC for the weekend. Personally, I don't really care; you are all gone when I make most of my money anyways, and you don't know the spots like I do.

But if you don't live here, and you don't know how Coastal Highway works, just stay home. Honestly you are only going to hurt your ratings and you aren't going to get as many pings as you think. I can't imagine the math makes sense, even if you end up sleeping in your car or on the beach during the day. I've seen lots of drivers making stupid and sometimes dangerous mistakes because they don't know where to drop people off or pick people up, particularly at hot spots like Seacrets and Fagers. According to many of my PAX, they have been rated accordingly...

So either wise up, or stay out, because you are going to end up hurting yourself the most.

I turned on the app a few weeks ago when I was there, glad I didn't waste my vacation waiting for a surge. They're all short trips, people who can't/won't take the $3 beach bus, with sand everywhere in the back seat of the car. I mentioned in DC board I dragged my pin around last weekend and I counted at least 20 idle UberX cars waiting on Coastal Highway. Complete joke.
I don't see the value in driving here. I'm a Baltimore driver and I spend 5 or 6 weekends in OC every summer. Been using uber this summer instead of the bus because I don't feel like dealing with a bunch of drunk teenagers.

Just last night my driver was ecstatic that I was going to a house in Fenwick. He said it was his first ride all night over 6 dollars. (This was at midnight, he had been online for several hours)

Take my opinion with a grain of salt because, like I said, I'm just here as a weekender. I'm certainly not getting the whole picture. All I can say is you won't have to worry about me driving in from the city to work!

how hard is it to drive up and down a street?

you jealous that finally you have business over summer time, however people are stealing your surges/rides?
If you consider 20 idle UberX cars between the boardwalk and 90th Street as stealing... lmaooooooooo
i drive for uberxl and there was 3.x surge every weekend for the past 2 months. so i doubt there's much idling going on.

If I had a trip from my area to Ocean City, I'd stay there and do trips. I'm pretty sure my GPS would get me where I need to fine. Can you please explain in full detail how just because someone doesnt live in Ocean City they arent able to get people from A to B? serious question. Including please explain how "coastal highway works". You dont drive on them, you just hover on them or something?

As with most cities where things are congested and close, riders dont need to go to far for the most part,so sure plenty rides are short. However, in the greater md market that OC is in, its the top city that surges the most. And any surge is great money. More than any other market in MD,DC,and probably VA too

That's what im trying to figure out. Like ive never been to LA, but how hard is it to pick up people and take them somewhere? Being a cab driver is not rocket science

'

And is it worth it for the weekends? The financial aspect of coming down for a weekend just to Uber can't be worth it.
Im 30min from bmore, i would never drive to Ocean just to try to make some money for one day. And I doubt theres a drone of people from bmore doing that. Stop believing all the crap the cheap pax have to say

i driver a uberxl, i often see surge 3.0+ for hours in ocean city, that's enough for me to get a hotel room 30 min outside ocean city, for $50/night, and then drive in to do a whole day of driving, just for the weekend and still be super profitable.

I know this is old but this is pretty funny - the whole post really, but especially this line. Coastal Highway is in the US, right? Red, green, speed limit, left turn arrows? Is there a secret "locals only" lane I'm unaware of?

Trust me, I'm not spending a vacation, nor driving 3 hours each way, for $5 fares from Secrets to their roach motel.
