The department, led by Eugene Scalia, gig workers can claim unemployment benefits only if they are "forced to suspend operations" which would hurt drivers and other gig economy employees if the apps they work for are technically still active. It also states workers may be able to return to work within two weeks of quarantining.

People love being picked up by app cars, having instacart deliveries, or amazon deliver something same day. They don’t realize that these self employed or gig workers are one missed check away from unemployment or food stamps.

Then this labor force is dependent on the government by creating a new welfare class.

If you buy stuff from the 99 cent store, or stuff made in China you’re part of the problem not the solution. Maybe this opens the average American’s mind to not support the cheapest product or service.
