Hello all... just started driving for Uber this past Saturday, and got a fe hours in today as well....

Keeping an open mind and taking it all in for now before I give a judgement on how I feel doing it in the City of Columbia, SC

Columbia is a huge town and the University of South Carolina is in the downtown are near a very touristy area with many bars and nightlife. My thoughts tell me that the downtown area is the hotspot for Uber so I am doing all my driving there for now to test it out.

There is a learning curve of course, I did it for three hours on Saturday and made $20.39 net pay.... today I did it for 6 hours and made a hair over $39... Saturday was just shy of $7 an hour in pay, and Monday was right about $6.50 an hour in pay net.

Being a very condensed area, the trips all seem to be short and the college kids head to the closest bar every time! Traffic is kind of heavy as well as pedestrian traffic so it is slow going... I keep getting emails telling me other drivers in Columbia make over $30 an hour and to this I say it has to be a blatant lie as I see no way possible to go that fast

How are you guys doing in other towns??

Hey Steve

When are you driving on the weekends? I drive Thursdays-Saturday from 10-until. If you want to make the promised amounts you have to stay online a while. The surges start as people head to the bars 10-11 p, and pick back up at closing 12-2. I dropped someone off around 2 am and made 88 dollars.

Just think, over the winter holiday, when students are gone for weeks, and Thanksgiving time, it could be much worse than $6-$7 net.

You mentioned a learning curve: yes, even I as a cab driver have one, but even after decades of driving. slow times happen, and even the most experienced and knowledgeable taxi/Uber driver can't overcome that.
