Can anyone think of a more efficient route than this?
You know what? Since Uber wants the shortest route, I'll set Waze to take me on the SHORTEST route…guaranteed to piss the pax off because it takes longer. Im really starting not to GAF anymore about customer satisfaction.

That's wild - I could see pax with at least half a brain trying to scam lower fares using this type of strategy. That fare reduction stinks - would not sit well with me and not GAF would increase substantially.
Or I’m going to have to refuse all long trips. “I’m sorry pax: Uber keeps cutting my payout in half when I do anything over 10km. You’ll have to order another car.”

Sure, I could've taken all the back streets. But that would've taken twice as long. And in this business time is money. I want these people out of my car as soon as possible, as much as I may enjoy their company so I can move on to my next fare.
Just sent off a message to Uber about the trip. But I'm not holding my breath on this.

When a GPS says 22 minutes on main streets, you can usually add another 5 to 10 minutes for the actual time. And keep in mind that this is on Saturday which is busy at 12 am. And that route is along Eglinton West. Construction galore. There's no way it would have taken only 22 minutes.

OMG I know this guy. lol I had lyf pax last winter from sunnybrook to the same area. google map said the other way (dvp and gardner)was at least 10min more so i went 401 instead much faster and a lot less traffic. He one stared me and flagged me navation but Lyft did not reduce my pay.
The devil appreciates your efforts in getting the pax home quickly but felt you earned too much for your efforts. lol
dont blame it on the pax. uber quoted him an upfront price based on a shorter route b4 he booked it and that changed after the ride was finished. Blame it on uber your devil master.

Were there any stops? This seems to be a simple discount given by Uber because pax complained that the route you took was not the most time efficient which if there were no stops would be upfront pricing and a fixed cost regardless of the route taken. It doesn't appear to be a specific fare reduction based on supposedly taking the long way. It appears to be an "inconvenience" discount given to the pax without any correlation to the time or distance driven on what could have possibly been a more efficient route.
It sounds like the customer called into complain and was looking to get a break on their fare.
I can say, in my two years of driving experience, I take a lot of notes and remember just about all my calls.
Just last week I received a fare adjustment for an ubereats that they stated that was not delivered... Had it not been for the time, address, and a photo (because I had a gut feeling) I may not have been paid. In the end uber re-adjusted my fare.... I know... crazy to think they actually did something that made a driver happy.
Sucks cause I actually had a good conversation with the customer... I even recited the conversation to uber support.

The rider just has to go to trips and select my driver took a poor route, and a refund is automatically issued. No human looked into this, I've used the feature in Amsterdam a few times when purposely being ripped off....never happened to me as a driver in Toronto ....if you follow Uber navigation you'll never get dinged...even though it is farther often...time is just 0.18 now and km is now 0.81....
I compare the 3 routes offered by Waze to the route offered by Uber (which is what the pax paid for). If fastest route is only a couple of minutes shorter but double the distance, I'm not going to take it. The pax will get a new receipt for going off route, then they have this opportunity to dispute it.
If on the other hand the longer Waze route saves a lot of time, then I take it. I've never had a fare dispute. I believe if you take that longer route and it is significantly faster (5 mins or more) than what uber quoted the pax for price and duration, Uber pays the extra to the driver but eats the cost because they were wrong about the fastest route.
The bit you mentioned about Eglinton contruction is nonsense because Waze gives quite accurate travel times based on real time traffic conditions from multiple sources. It's very rarely wrong.
