Had to do it again yesterday! Young guys with drinks!

3135 Views 51 Replies 17 Participants Last post by  DrivingStPete
Yesterday (Saturday) I get an XL ping on St. Charles Ave. 6 young guys walking toward the vehicle and every one of them has either a red Solo cup or a can of beer in his hand. I make sure the doors are locked and drive away. I see one of them run into the street with his hands help up in the air like the "Touchdown Jesus" acting all surprised that I'm driving off and canceling the trip. I wonder if the next Uber they ordered actually took them in. Hope not. I saw in my trip list from yesterday that they were going to 634 Louisa St. (The Country Club). Seems like I have an issue with every one of my trips to or from that place, always involving young over-privileged punks!

Some people can't go anywhere without a drink in their hand. What's so hard about waiting til you get to your destination to get another drink? Geez.
I used to agree with you then one weekend I happened to not get a single group with alcohol and my ratings were the highest ever. It doesn't matter how tactful you are, some riders are going to be jerks and low star you for refusing to break the law, even if they act ok with it at the time. You'll learn.
After having worked in retail and law enforcement for as long as I have, I've accepted this as fact early on. It doesn't bother me one bit. Worrying about ratings is sweating the small stuff in the long run.

As long as I keep hearing about shitty Uber drivers still doing their thing, I know I'll be safe as long as I stay tactful and safe.
4.91. Still under 100, though. I've done it a few times with no rating repercussions. Like I said, tact is everything.
OK...keep doing what you're doing. I've had to "eat crow" at least once on this forum and admit that I was wrong about something I said. Hopefully you'll do the same when your rating starts dropping. It's not very easy to get it back up once you have more than 500 trips completed.
My rating fluctuates between 4.91 and 4.92 with about 1460 trips.

I know exactly what you mean. They smile at you and tell you they understand and it's no problem to drink or dump it, and then they stab you in the back.

Every one star rating lowers your overall rating by .08. Fifty rides a week with one or two one stars a week means your rating will be .8-.1.2 lower over five hundred ratings. Even if you don't get deactivated it will hit your earning ability. If there are two drivers equal distance away Uber sends the request to the driver with the higher rating. Like I said, keep doing what you're doing but if your rating starts to drop try canceling these calls and see what happens.

That probably was the appropriate way to handle it, but you should have called them names and flipped them off like a true person of class would do.

Fixed that for you.
Fixed that for you.
And you love it, don't you?

Whoa...Whoa! Way too much math for this Uber driver!!
Had to do it again today. I get an Uber XL ping to Jackson Ave. 7 women walk up to the van, all with drinks in plastic cups. I tell them I'll have to cancel the trip and they can order another driver who might let them get away with 7 passengers with drinks. They were not happy.
Good job.
I knew you'd be very proud of me!
I got a 4 star rating, just because I wouldn't let a 5th person of a group in. I explained the laws and 4 still went, chatted with them and offered the 3 items of uber. Still a 4 star, my 4th one of those out of 207 trips now.
Why didn't you just drive off when they started arguing?
3 of them were already in the vehicle and saying okay sort of, it was akward to say the least, but I was as nice as I could be and they still wouldn't get over the fact that I didn't break the law for them. You can't satisfy everyone, but is okay since I still have a 4.98 overall and only 4-4 stars. At least they didn't go 3 or less:/
don't worry! That 4.98 does not last long! I had my 5.0 rating for my first 30 rides! then it went down hill!

How many trips have you completed?
228 trips with 175 - 5 stars, 4 - stars, and 14 - 5 star comments no issues reported.

I've completed 1536 trips. Out of the 1200 rated trips, 1105 were 5-stars. Your overall rating will undoubtedly drop before very long and you will be slapped with at least a couple of issues. I've gotten 2 issues so far. 1 for "Mechanical" which I'm sure is due to my cracked windshield, which has no affect on the rider's experience during the trip and also an issue for "Attitude". One of the riders could probably tell that I was a bit irritated that they stunk up my vehicle with cigarette smoke smell because they were smoking just before they got into my van.
How can you determine how many 4-star trips you've gotten? You could have gotten a few 1,2 or 3 star ratings also.
My favorite is "refused destination".

Despite kicking people out from time to time, I only have one negative mark for "refused destinstion"

I enjoy seeing it on my feedback page though. It puts a smile on my face as a reminder to kick people out every chance I get.
