Got a select ping yesterday afternoon to go from I-drive in orlando to hard rock casino in tampa (70 miles). I had gotten a ping for similar ride a long time ago, but it was x and late at night, so cancelled.
It was "ok"...I envisioned it would have been more, but was $107 for 3 hrs of my time and just over 3 gallons of gas.
But it definitely reaffirmed that ride would be a $ loser in x.

Holy crap. 70 miles and only 107 dollars on select which I assume is your net earnings. ? X rates here would be at least 120 dollars for a trip that long after uber takes their cut. Wtf

What are you driving select with that gets over 40 miles to the gallon? I did a select once from Raleigh to Greensboro airport, 80 miles, $132
With no tip and deadheading back, it's good but not great. My operating expenses are about .25 a mile on the highway, which means I got $92 for driving 3 hours in the rain at 70 miles an hour. Better than what I usually do though!

Because I had to come back... 70 miles. (140 total) Yes, some traffic

That seems a bit low jp300h

Between time and miles, I can usually calculate how much I make simply by giving myself $2 a mile and assume Uber keeps the per minute as their 25%

70 miles should have gotten you $140 net. Double check their math, I don't buy it... well unless your select isn't $2 a mile? Select should payout just shy of $50 an hour when on the clock.

Never mind I didn't read all the post, saw that Select in orlando is $1.65. Makes more sense.

That's exactly what I do. Select here is $2.35/mi $0.40/min.

Occasionally I get requests to Orlando...2 1/2 hours one way, and I apologize and cxl the ride. I can't afford a 5 hour round trip ride, for one way pay. Is there any way to avoid these pings???

Nope, Uber doesn't want to let the drivers make the decision until you pickup the PAX.

Well the pax loses out by not calling and asking, wasting my time and $ to get to the pick up address. It seems these pax know the deal and try anyway. Big waterfront house in a high end area and you couldn't make better and/or decision on travel arrangements? Doesn't pay to be cheapola

No, you just have to ask them to cancel. Explain that they should really give a heads up to the driver on a long trip.

This is what I do on longer trips of the start south of PSL. Once I cross into St lucie county, I end the trip and play dumb. Then I ask them to re-request. I accept and get the central fl rates.

Yes. I've done the switch game. Most pax realize now the difference in fares between Martin and St Lucie counties. Getting tired of the 20 mile trips from Stuart to North PSL for $16-17:-(

I live in Toledo, OH and the closest major airport is Detroit. Legally I can't pick up a passenger in Detroit and it's about an hour drive one way. Amazing how people never call me ahead of time to ask if I'll do the trip and a couple people have told me that I'm obligated to take them after telling them I was going to cancel the trip and have had people whine they will miss their flight by the time they get another uber there.

I got burned with no tip the first two times I took someone there and now cancel any trip to the airport unless they offer to tip me upfront.

I always call the driver on any airport trip I make as a passenger and will tell them I am going to the Airport and tell them I will tip them $40 (even with a $40 tip combined with the uber fare it is cheaper than a cab before tip) and always allow plenty of time to find another uber if they decline the ride. So far every Uber driver has taken me to the airport.

Hey. Charity begins at home. I'm not in a financial position to drive 80 mile round trip for $27. Most pax know this, but try anyway.

Orlando has some of the lowest rates in the country across the board.

There is no level of uber service that comes to be more than a taxi in price.

You can make 2-3 TIMES more money by slapping a "for hire" sign on your roof and cruising for tourists, no dispatch necessary.
