A 48-year-old man who was drinking was hurt Sunday when he crashed his Bird scooter into another Bird scooter ahead of him, a San Diego police officer said.

The crash happened about 6:05 p.m. 700 G St. in the Core-Columbia neighborhood, SDPD Officer Robert Heims said.

The victim was not cited for a DUI, Heims said.

He was eastbound following a 43-year-old man on his scooter at an unsafe speed, Heims said. The first rider slowed down but the victim couldn't slow down fast enough and collided with the scooter. The victim's scooter overturned and he suffered a fracture to his arm, Heims said.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injury.

Bird is a dockless scooter share company based in Santa Monica and operates electric scooters in cities around the country.

Wow, this is big, major league news.

What weirds me out is how people think scooters are dangerous.

We have cars that, just by running a stop sign, can kill 18 people. We have 30,000 car deaths a year, caused by what is obviously the most dangerous instrument known to mankind. 80 people a day.

But for some reason we are so effed in the head that we go crazy over "dangerous" scooters that go 15 miles an hour and are no threat to anyone. An occasional broken arm. Maybe a death when the most dangerous machines known to mankind drag over a scooter and kill them while the operator is texting.

It just weirds me out how effed we are from our conditioning. When we say scooters are dangerous, what we really mean is they are an annoyance to those of us that cavalierly and carelessly drive the most dangerous machines known to mankind.

Not dangerous? You're kidding right? Some hospitals are reporting 10 head fractures A WEEK! Someone have serious brain injuries. This is only the beginning.

Let's not forget the upstate NY stretch limo that killed 20 (twenty) Souls two weeks ago.

Are limousines deaths now a health care crisis ?
That's the one I meant, I thought it was 18 people. Yeah it just kills me (no pun intended) to hear people say scooters are dangerous while they are driving the world's most effective killing machine around like its nothing. What they really mean is the scooters and bicycles and walkers and runners are annoying to them, therefore its dangerous. I can just hear that woman that was supposed to be watching the self-driven Uber car (watching the Voice instead); "that woman crossing the road was being dangerous!"

Very likely the reason why these injuries are occurring is because car drivers mow them down. Same with bicycles. Bicycles are so dangerous! Especially when you mow into them at 50 mph. Just drive safely and slowly and put your phone away.
