I am in Houston and I am at risk daily, so my opinion is if you have loved ones and want to sleep at night without worrying if some punk on meth or something else isn’t going to kill you for the car and the few dollars you have then I wouldn’t drive…
I grew up in Joliet, Illinois and remember violence since I was a child, so for me this isn’t new but many of you, well it is, so make your choices and if you drive then drive during hours you feel comfortable and in areas you feel safe…

I dunno why you guys do this job for pennies.
Where I work, we been having a problem with trespassers and homeless. Boss told me that she wants me to check the hiding places for unauthorized people. Ok, then what? "Well, run them off of course.''
"Of course? ... I am not a security guard, a hired gunslinger. Not my job. I will call the cops."
She says "Cops won't do anything."
I said, "Know why? Because they can't. But you want ME to?'' shaking my head, "sorry soul."

And, ya know what gets me about El Heffe?
She is from Portland.
And complains that the police can't do anything.
At least here, we haven't completely nutted our cops like they did theirs.
Yet.
But, as more people run away from pissholes like Portland and move here - they will vote and be all 'active' and get that job done here too.

Do you need the job? Staying home of course will reduce your chances greatly from dying from almost anything.....
Thats all on you to decide given what you need / your area etc..
Every market, ride, person, car, scenario is different. You could lose your brakes and slam into a donut truck while another driver drives right past you. You could pick up a PAX that one driver passed on because they had to pee and end up in the scenario you posted... and vice versa.
You could do 500,000 rides and have no incident... or your second ride can have a crazy machete wielding mental case. Its all about chances / risks.

wow. The poll results thus far are surprising. Almost half of respondents have already taken precautions to mitigate losses from such an event. Good work people.

If you’ve read any of my posts, you know I drive in Portland. News of the shooting was not surprise. But don’t be foolish, the gun wasn’t violent. The attacker was. This is what happens when you vote exclusively for democrats to run your city. They’ve cut millions from the police budget. They’ve trash talked police. The police are demoralized, and they can’t find people to work for them. The state of oregon decriminalized drug use, so the police can’t do anything about the “homeless” drug addicts adding to the skyrocketing crime problem. Portland is a giant toilet. And it’s not going to get better any time soon. But at least it’s a safe place for men with a penis to pretend they’re women and hang out naked in the girls changing room at the public pool.

Try driving in a nice place where guns are outlawed. Like Chicago or New York.
Even in Detroit, drivers are at far greater risk from traffic accidents. Ironically, “bullet proof vests” have saved more lives by protecting from blunt force trauma (like that steering column trying to spike you) than from bullets.
