This is definitely why the least I like driving for Lyft and Uber is doing business low-income, ghetto areas.

Had a girl yesterday who I picked up from the mall, and drove closest and waited at her nearest current location. I called to see if she was near the entrance between the two stores I was waiting but she never picked up. Than 5 min later she calls me, I had to be on the line with her where I was exactly at until she finally found me (giving her the nicest tone I can possibly give). I could tell by her tone she was a bit upset when she arrived in the car. She also brought food and tried to eat it. I reminded her politely that she couldn't eat in my vehicle and she told me she wasn't (even though she did sneak in a couple bites). And that was it.

I checked my rating this morning and it dropped from 4.98 to 4.94. Immediately contacted support about it as I recalled the trip being the most tense. Lyft replied quickly excluded the rating and my rating went back to a 4.98. Didn't have to submit a dashcam footage afterall.

Needless to say I did capture the entire ride on my dashcam. I do have a Vantrue N2 Pro dashcam and I record ALL my rides (from the time the trip was received and several seconds after I drop off the pax unless I have another request, the dashcam is gonna continue to roll). Luckily I didn't have to submit it and I usually bring it up when all things cannot be resolved.

This is the second time this week I had to dispute my ratings since I value ratings due to my livelihood and a low rating could make a big different in the long run.

few in every thousand rides, or a few in every 6 months of driving, would get dinged for no apparent reason that is beyond my control, or inconsiderate pax.

Just a rant.

Doesn’t seem believable that you could have 1000’s of rides under your belt and could suffer a drop that large with 1 poor rating. Because you failed to cancel on a rude pax after the 5 min bell, it leads me to believe that you are a new driver with very few rides. Veterans don’t get overly upset with rating fluctuations. Hell, most veterans already know not to do ghetto pickups; if I drop off in a ghetto, I shut off the app and roll out.
Welcome to rideshare. ;)

I'm not a new driver. Been driving since April of 2017. 814 Trips in total. 4.94 ratings on Uber. 4.98 on Lyft, but Only have like 300 some rides on Lyft.

I do cancel when I exceed the 5 min wait, but literally because prime time was peaking the heIl out. I

Needless to say, I'm stopping the occasional ghetto rides.

Lyft ratings refresh every 100 rated rides, so a 1 star rating would result in a 4.98 dropping to 4.94

Let this be a lesson in a few different ways:

1) if pax isn't at your location (at the pin address) after 5 minutes, cancel once the red "cancel-no show" box pops up on the screen and choose "Rider isn't here" or "rider no show" so you get your cancellation fee. They've wasted enough of your time, gas, efforts at this point. And when you're picking up from a place like you described it's usually a short minimum fare trip that will pay LESS than what you earned for the cancellation.

2) if a ride starts off poorly BEFORE PAX EVEN GETS IN YOUR CAR (like this one did, you state that she sounded annoyed with you about the fact that she couldn't find you- which again is not your fault) it's usually smart to cancel it immediately before pax even gets close to your location. When a pax is obviously too stupid to be on time AND too dumb to find you when she entered the pickup location, and she then sounds pissed off when you're still on the phone- ABORT MISSION!! ABORT MISSION!!

You're just asking for a low rating when these are the precursors to a trip. And on Uber, you aren't going to be able to remove the bad rating from lowbrow pax so your rating will just continue to nosedive if you pick up annoyed and low-IQ pax like the one you described in your original comment.

You're still learning and this stuff will become second nature after a while. Believe me, I still think back to some of the things I did for asshole pax at the beginning and I want to smack myself. But you just need to build up that thick skin that we all develop after a few months - you, too, will look back on this experience and wonder why you were so accommodating to this witchy woman.

Good luck out there. Be safe!

Even though I've been driving for a year, I've been driving full time since Feb of this year. I used to do it part-time while in school but I just recently graduated and doing it full-time til I find a career.

Beginnings. Beginnings where I wish I could've been more tough and actually where I would've been justified in cancelling the trips.

I've been stern on not allowing people bringing their kids with child boosters (happened twice this week), pax insisting on bringing more people than the intended capacity, and like we've discussed pickup points at pin, some pax are irresponsible, drunk, or just too dumb and place the pin in a random location...

Does cancellation really matter in regards to excess waittime?

Stop worrying about the ratings, it's just a method to bully drivers. Uber and Lyft use ratings to screw drivers, you work for cash not ratings.

so here is an important tip on uber. Do not kick a pax out after you started the trip but then click do not charge passenger. The problem is on uber even though you havent given them a ride or that they are charged anything they can still rate you and fill in that box with a rediculous acusation. That's where lyft is better with their rating system. You cancel the ride pax can't rate ya cuz they didn't pay anything. Totally fair. Duck uber and their shit rating system.

Oh another tip if you do cancel the ride in the poor neighbourhoods make sure you go offline and far enough away from the pax before you go online. I clicked no show on a line request with a pax who didn't get into my car when the timer ran out and so he must have followed me in another car and when I went back online I got a ping still in the area and when I got the location it was him and demanded that I drive him home. I was like no way. Cancelled that ride and after some weak threats and insults he left. Called lyft and reported the situation.
