I've had my google navigation cut out around I25 and I225 on a couple of occasions, now (once was this evening on the way to the Hyatt). It has always come back on a few miles later. Are there any tricks to get it back online? Anyone else have this problem? Is this a "dead zone"?

Here's how to fix Google maps: use Waze.

Waze is owned by Google, so Google maps actually gets a lot (if not most) of their traffic/ accident/construction info from Waze. However, Waze is a social nav app; meaning waze users can report things (traffic, cops, hazards, closures) in real time, which then gets reported to other wazers who are on the same route. Those reports do end up on Google maps, but they're usually late and give you notifications for traffic incidents which have happened and been cleared.

Waze will also reroute you to the fastest route, real time, when another wazer makes a report. The cool thing about waze, is that it routes based on fastest drive time, not shortest mileage. Hence the live traffic rerouting.

I prefer Waze as well. The interface is a bit more cartoon-y, but Rooster06 does a great job of summarizing all of the benefits. I really like that you can change the damned voice - that default Google Maps lady is obnoxious.

About the only downside is Waze doesn't do the lane thing Google Maps does - so it doesn't recommend/show you which lane to be in.

I don't have any weird cutouts around I-25/225, and I'm here (almost) every day of the week as that's where my office is...

I tried waze once. maybe I need to get used to it without passengers in the car but it kept telling me people were honking at me? And It was giving me candy? WTH ?
Uhm. What? There is a 'social' aspect, but I didn't think random people could ping you like that... just people on your friends list (which I don't have it associated to any facebook accounts etc).

Maybe that was a loooong time ago? I've been driving Uber for a year now and used Waze heavily for that whole year. Haven't seen any of this stuff you describe... You can see other users (Wazers...) on the map, and maybe they used to let you "honk" at random people on the map. Either they've completely disallowed this, or you had it connected to something I do not :)

Random wazers can "beep" at you. One clicks on the icon of another wazer and you can message or "beep" or "honk" at them. Any person that does this is a fool, and should be demoted from adult to oversized child with stunted maturity. Also, your fb friends who use Waze can do this as well, just don't associate your fb account when you set up your waze and it will fix that problem.

The candy is an arbitrary thing that notifies you when you reach a point milestone. If you look on your account, there's a scoreboard page. You get points and ranks based on higher points. Points are earned for mileage, reporting things for other wazers to see, and other arbitrary tasks. Once you reach one of these milestones, Waze will populate a candy icon along your route. As soon as your car icon hits it, you are awarded those points.

The points essentially mean nothing, except your icon wears a different hat or crown when shown on other wazers map displays. That's part of the "social network" aspect of the app. Some claim that the higher rank you are, the better the app works for you; as far as routing, rerouting, or other notifications.

In truth, the higher ranking you are, the more your reports on the app are trusted to reroute others. Also, if you deviate from a Waze suggested route, if you're high ranking, it will use your route to adjust the algorithm in recommending routes to others, that's about it.

LoL really? Why is it always me? I swear I don't make this stuff up LoL this was maybe a year and half ago.

I have Waze but it cant's find the GPS signal, and I don't know how to get it to use my Bluetooth?

Thanks! I rely heavily on the lane suggestions (when they're available).

Are you sure that's still the case? I just tried, I can't 'beep' any ole random user... Pretty sure that's a feature they took away exactly for the reason Daisey stated.

I just remember driving and it would randomly say Jen's honking at you. I would ask my sister who's Jenn and why is she honking at me? My sister would just laugh and laugh and tell me honk back! I said no but can I run her over? She told me not two and then called me anti-social LoL

For ubering waze blows away Google maps especially to quickly see which route to take, also being notified of speed traps and hazards is a huge plus.
However if you're not very good at navigating in the first place you'll miss the lane information Google maps gives. In my worthless opinion if you rely on lane warnings you shouldn't be driving people for money

Agreed......

On that note, Hovit requires Google Maps. I spoke with one of their guys... or "the" guy... and mentioned they would look into adding the ability to choose between Waze and Google Maps. I tried to use Waze on 2 (Hovit) rides, and not only it was a pain - but the Hovit app itself wouldn't properly stay open and track me 100% of the time on the way to pickup the pax.

the cutting out is not the prgm, it's loss of gps or cell phone signal. several apps can measure and display on realtime, install one, go to those locations and you will see what I'm saying. In the maps app, google maps, it gives you option to download and use maps offline. This will help some, but not completely.

Am I the only one here that uses the uber navigation?
If you download google maps, does it sync with the app or do you have to switch between apps?
Very happy using the Uber navigation, no issues at all.
Both of yous must have iOS devices. There is no such thing as "Uber Navigation" on Android.
