I've only been at this a few weeks. Here is how my yesterday went:
Morning I did 6 rides. I got tips on all 6 rides. Four X/lyft and two XL/Plus rides. X were people going to work, bringing dog to vet (he txted asking if okay), etc. The two XL were packed full of students going on day trips somewhere, they were perfectly well behaved.
Night I did 6 rides. I got no tips on any ride. Two X/lyft and four XL/Plus rides. All four XL trips were a pain in the ass. The best one paid well because it was very long, but they asked me to go to mcdonalds and mcdonalds has never moved so slowly (I fully hid my annoyance at this). They were gushing thanks about this mcdonalds trip and driving them in general. They didn't pay a tip. Of the other three XL each one had (as is so common) always a token a**hole. This is the loud mouth drunk who won't shut their pie hole. I hate these rides, they aren't necessarily mean, they are just typical obnoxious drunk. Loud, nosy, full of dutch courage. Oh and in two of these I found out they had open bottles the entire time drinking. One told her friend it was because it's an uber and you can "do anything". Another seemed annoyed I didn't have water. Another was going on about punching people out for worldstar.
Guess what I rated the people who snuck liqour into my vehicle? 5 stars. Why? Retaliatory ratings basically forces me to. Until the rating system is fixed there is essentially no reason to ever rate less than 5 stars. So, yes, Rachel who is obnoxious as hell and snuck booze in my car got 5 stars. In the real world of proper rankins they would have gotten 1 star and I'd have contacted uber to complain about the passenger.
The thing is I have a full time job, so sneaking day time hours here and there means I won't get much driving done. Drunks don't pay enough to make it worth it, though.
Also effective immediately I am lying about where I work. A surprising number of people ask. I know they find uber drivers a novelty, but now I just won't tell them the truth anymore.
I suppose my post is a normal evolution of a new uber driver toward disenfranchisement with the drunks.
