They're gonna need a LOT more charging stations in roll-out cities. And car thieves are gonna love dem six-figure targets.
Take about 5 minutes to knock out the installed cameras, disable the GPS/LoJack, hack the control computer, and the car
disappears into a chop shop. Later the parts back are sold back to GM/Lyft as "discount spares".

Where did you get the idea a $30,000 Bolt with $5-$6,000 worth of equipment would cost 6 figures?

Lol good luck. I wonder how those rear wheel drive electric cars will do in areas that get tons of snow and mud that will cover the sensors .
Too bad GM doesn't know about 4 wheel drive or traction control.

"Six figures" is the unit cost estimate of the initial rollout of autonomous vehicles. Obviously, way beyond the consumer market. Only a corporation like Uber would be willing to pay.

However, like most technology, the initial high cost will drop rapidly. It's estimated that the additional cost for autonomous technology will add between $7,000 and $10,000 to the price of a car in 2025. But that will drop down to around $3,000 by 2035, according to IHS.

I think those are probably old numbers. Lidar used to cost $70,000 per unit. It's like $400 now, IIRC. By the time these are manufactured the industry is expecting the cost to be under $100 because solid state lidar was recently invented.

Advances in the technology and expected worldwide demand will drive down all of the costs. Also, bear in mind, these will be introduced at manufacturer's cost as TNCs.

Besides, Uber won't be paying for them. They have partnered with someone to provide the fleet. Volvo I think?
