Giving out lyft promo cards to uber X pax

1259 Views 15 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Luberon
With no tip necessary BS and low rates I feel tempted to give out those 500 referral cards lyft sent out to me to my Uber customers. I dont expect getting more than a handful of bonuses, but at 5$ a pop even ten referrals will beat what I get in tips for a month. Besides I shared more than 100 uber cards to lyft customers.

My question is do you know of anyone who has been in trouble for giving out promo cards?

Uber (illegally) considers you an independent contractor and thusly should not control how you market your independent driving service.

yeah, but.....trust that if the Local Yokel

vaguely worded nonsense in the TOS.

Let me ask you a question... Do you get offended when Uber promotes and advertises to independent contractors other than yourself? Remember, you and Uber are two independent businesses that contract with each other.

Threaten yes, but cannot deactivate. Just send them a polite reply reminding them you are an IC and need to promote your business in the same way Uber has the right to promote theirs.

The solution is simple.

After you hit the end trip button at the end of your trip, you are no longer under contract with uber. Then hand over the Lyft card.

"Hand out Lyft promo to Uber Pax."

"Driver suddenly discovers that he/she has been deactivated."

Why?

Pax given a Lyft Promo was an Uber spy. Wouldn't risk it.

Yes... there is that.

There is no such thing as an Uber Spy. Haha. If you believe Uber does any kind of quality check on their drivers then I have some oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you.

Haha!!
I have driven both Uber management and lobbyists...Uber staff are given copious amounts of free ride credits. One will eventually be in your vehicle.
And I will eventually stop being an uber driver... depends which happens first
I have given out close to 20 cards so far.... perfect 5.0 rating for the week. No one has taken up my offer yet. This post is to know how common uber tracks such issues.

If I was a rider I would appreciate you giving me a card. If Uber finds out, yes you will most likely get in trouble.
And Uber would be in more trouble for doing so. This is precisely the information the attorneys are looking for in the IC/employee lawsuit. Having their employees deemed employees is the one thing that scares the crap out of Uber.

Recently received a weekly summary from Uber in which a "problem was reported".

"Problems reported
There were a few things your riders thought could be better. Here are some tips on how to improve:

Professionalism
Riders count on Uber for a comfortable, relaxing experience. They prefer for drivers not to promote other businesses during the trip"

Not sure what this references as Uber doesn't think drivers should know what the actual complaint was. Two things come to mind. Either it was the older couple I gave free appetizer coupons to (I have a bunch left over from previous job and I'm not going to use them all so I thought it might make someone's day to get some free food, only offer it to people I drop off near the restaurant) or it was the ones who asked if I drive both and which I preferred. If I'm in an Uber ride I keep it diplomatic "Well they both have pros and cons" etc. But if I'm driving Lyft I'm completely honest and tell them I much prefer Lyft and am only keeping my Uber account in case something changes.

So beware "promoting other business" as it appears some riders or perhaps secret shoppers will ding your rating and complain about your "professionalism".

I got that too... but it is generic canned response. Of course I watch my rating after every ride since I started handing out cards. Perfect 5.0
