This study is based on Uber drivers in the U.S but its turns out the $12/hr net figure I jokingly quoted in one of my other posts is not far off the mark.
The numbers may or may not be as bad for Australian drivers. Who really knows. In any case if you are hoping and praying for things to improve and your earnings to miraculously go up, well you might want to reconsider because net earnings are only going to move in one direction.

I'm sure the die-hards who think they are earnings $30-50/hr will dispute the figures in the study because let's face it, what do smart academics know and they must just be talking the numbers down so that there are less Uber drivers out there because the academics just want all the pings for themselves.

Anyway, here is the article:

Good luck and happy community service.

the reality is uber isn't a long term employment prospect when it comes to full time employment.... as a side gig it's great, as a short term full time job it isn't the worse thing in the world but long term it doesn't work out
I don't even think it's viable as a side gig. When I stopped I considered continuing to drive on the weekends but once I thought about it the return on the effort just wasn't worth it. Too many hours required and the costs are just too high and unavoidable. Driver 'partner' indeed, thanks for reaching out.

this kinder falls back on the individual... making some extra cash driving is betting than spending getting pissed at the pub, than there's tax benefit's of having your car as apart of your business

This. It's just a spare time extra cash thing to fill in time. Also directional trips are great. Had to go airport to pick up a friend the other morning so put direction towards airport, ping from parra to airport cost me about 10 mins extra time and a very small amount of fuel for $42 trip.

Uber is a full time job for the desperate that want to to 100 hours a week to make an acceptable income, for the rest of us it's just a little bit of pocket money
