Not only is Lyft and Uber ripping us off they gotta make us chase the little cheap ass surge they put out there and then as you get closer to it they take it away. I took this lady from O'Hare to Harvey and they charged her $97 bucks and they gave me $17. Are we going to do something about this or we just going to be a bunch of suckers!?

Your first mistake was sitting at Ohare waiting for the ride in the first place. The second was accepting a 40 mile trip paying $17.

I’m sure you would have been all over this one. Just because it pays $48

And then what, I'm on the launch pad for a low acceptance rate? I'm not a premium member on here but I've been doing this thing for 8 years. The more you cancel or don't accept the more crappier your rides you get.
But you say you’re already getting crappy rides, so what does it matter?
Any time you take a low paying ride you are teaching them that is an “acceptable” rate because YOU accepted it.

I've been with Lyft & Uber for almost 8 years so why do I have to quit just because some new CEO is a scumbag?!

Then keep accepting rides that Pay 18% of the fare and accept that this is the new normal.

Nothing will change as long as the rides are being accepted.

The only ways it will change is 1) government regulations (which is almost never a good thing) and/or 2) drivers stop driving.

Both companies have shown, multiple times throughout the years, that the way they get more drivers logging on is by paying more. 2020, remember the bonuses ? It wasn't because they were being kind, it was bribe money.

It all boils down to the fact that every time you accept a low paying ride YOU have just defined that level of pay as acceptable. Don’t complain the next time you get a crappy offer because YOU told them it was OK when YOU ACCEPTED the last one.
Every driver that accepts a low paying ride is screwing all drivers.

Wait - the less we accept, the lower paying rides we get? Is that true? I thought only cancellation rate is what matters. Or no one knows for sure?
Acceptance rate is meaningless after a couple of lost lawsuits. Cancellation and completion rates are another story.
Decline ALL unprofitable offers.

I do exactly that - I use the Para app to see pay per mile - I accept at $1/mile or more. Sometimes if the pickup makes sense, I'll go as low as $0.85ish but even then it's low. Is there a better app than Para to help calculate this?

Nothing hard. Look at pay, divide by miles in your head. Decline if it is below your threshold.

Let's use last night as an example - I have a passenger in the car, paying attention to the road during the rain on a busy street...and I get an offer while car is in motion. I rather use my attention to drive. The Para app pops up a notification, tells me the pay per mile, then I can go back to Uber and accept or ignore the request. I rather do this than try to run numbers while driving. And I'm good with numbers but still prefer this method.

I wish they did DoorDash also.

With all due respect, I've been driving for 8 years as well. New CEO, old CEO, doesn't matter, we've been treated like poop since these companies have taken off, you just didn't realize it. With that said, you haven't figured it out yet if you are taking such a crappy offer. You are better off sitting home than taking that ride. I typically have a 40% acceptance rate and I do just fine getting good rides when it's busy. When it's slow, you can't make money in my market so I simply don't drive.
