It's really about the car, which they identified by the year and VIN then stating it is "used to carry passengers for hire or compensation".

Therefore they will cancel the policy for it.

So it's not about the fact that they know I'm an Uber driver. It's that they find out the particular vehicle (which they're insuring) is being used as such.

Geico has been doing this for years. There are probably at least 10 threads on it just on these forums. Some have pictures of the notices. Probably best to switch to a more rideshare friendly insurer if you are with Geico.
Now the question remains; How would they know and what proof do they have?
