I was Paying $130 for oil change every two months. Because I was lazy and stupid not doing it myself. Yesterday I rolled up my sleeves and did it myself thanks to YouTube videos. It cost me only $65 with 7 1/2 quarts of mobile one and I got the oil filter from Mercedes for $16 I did get a air filter as well but im returning tomorrow becouse Mercedes dealership charge me $70 for air filters and when I looked on Amazon same exact filter I purchased for $20

You would think those guys at Valvoline know how to change oil.But guess what they don’t know. I noticed two mistake they made when they changed my oil last time. When I took the plug out they put the rubber ban on the oil plug instead of being Copper washer.
And the other thing when I drain old oil It had 8 quarts instead of having 7 1/2 what my car takes.

I'm assuming it's so crazy expensive because it is a luxury car? I pay $35 for my oil changes and that includes topping off my wiper fluids and tire rotation. If an oil change on my vehicle cost $130 I'd do it myself too :p

Where did you purchase all of the materials you needed for the oil change (like the jack stand) and how much did it all cost you?

1/2 quart over is no big deal, especially on something that holds that much.

We typically run BMWs a full quart over on the track without issue. It's only a problem if it's significantly overfilled to the point the bottom of the crankshaft is resting in oil and frothing it.

Any quicklube place is going to have questionable people there. The old saying if you want something done right do it yourself definitely applies.

Jack ($80), jack stands ($20-30), wheel chocks ($10-20), torque wrench ($20) (if you don't already have it).

I used to change my own oil on my BMW and it saved me about $40 each time.

I'm thinking of starting to do it myself to save some money. It seems like the upfront cost of the materials needed (like a jack) are pretty pricey.
You could get ramps.

I'd get the jack and at least two stands though.

They come in handy. You can learn how to do brakes and rotate your own tires etc.....

The tools will pay for themselves quickly and you'll learn more about your car.

It's totally doable on your own. You can find plenty of deals for items in flyers or shop on Amazon. I would suggest a reusable air filter; they're easy to clean but cost a bit more (K&N) The oil filter doesn't need to be a name brand. Mobil1 is the best motor oil because it handles better with our different temperature changes.

If you are changing oil on a Benz. Invest in a good "topsider". You suck the oil out of the dipstick. It's clean, you can do it in a suit. No need to jack the car up or get underneath. Your filter is right on top as you know. It is how Mercedes does it. It is how I did all of my E class's You can get a good topsider for about $60 online or at any marine store. Mobil 1 and filters from Walmart no need to pay Stealership prices for filters.

My son is a finance guy so he like to save money so he bought all that stuff for his car he bought the Ramps I believe it was for $40 and he has bunch of tools. He doesn't know much about cars but he do watch a lot of YouTube clips how to do it,and for finance he listen to Dave Ramsey lol.
