How is the rider requests out in San Diego during Friday nights/Saturday Nights? Mainly too and from bars/clubs?

it's ok. reasonably heavy on requests.

bar strategy isn't currently part of my strategy so not sure how strong the traffic for that crowd is.
Heavy usage and very short trips.
PAX are spoiled by 2 min ping times. If you have to do the 4 corner turn around they CXL.
It is worth it only if you need to pay the rent and have barf bags in the car.

agreed, I stay away personally.

if i get a trip to gaslamp i cut it off and leave downtown period. it's the only area i take that drastic of a strategy.

i also never drive past 1am, and usually not past 12am just specifically to avoid the drunk crowd.

it's great taking the crowd to get drunk, not so great bringing back the drunk crowd. no vomiting in my car and i plan to keep it that way if possible.
I will take folks to a bar, from bar to bar, but not home from a bar at closing.
I check them out first.
1. Only open the window 3" to ask their name.... if they don't know it, roll and CXL.
2. If weaving around, or holding onto something.. roll and CXL.
3. If belligerent... roll and CXL - I don't take pissed off pax anytime day or night.

i haven't tried that before. maybe i will.

i definitely dont accept PO'd PAX. I had a pickup from around qualcomm last week and I was getting attitude from this guy i was trying to find but he kept walking around. I was patient for awhile because he had 3 girls with him. But his last time I had enough and decided he was in a reasonably safe area and I was done with his nonsense.

Uber definitely doesn't pay enough for attitudes.
I usually try to be done by midnight. When I get rides downtown I will then go offline until I can get far enough away that another ride downtown will be decent.
I know that between 12-3am is where the money can be. But I have not made that a part of my regular weekend routine.
When I am escaping as fast as possible Pacific Beach, I will switch to XL, as a short trip is somewhat tolerable at that rate.

Park and wait 5 min. Collect stupid PAX fee (SPF).... bonus.
He learns a lesson, you get $4 of the $5 buck fee.
Friday night's have been fairly good to me. I work mostly North Park, University & Hillcrest areas, although I occasionally end up downtown or in PB. I'll usually stay out til bar close to get a few quality surge rides to fatten my weekly pot. I'll usually look for the warning signs of a bad late night pax & act accordingly.
When I do several rides in Hillcrest I notice my rating goes down on the next weekly status report. After I noticed this, I skipped Hillcrest for a few months, and was pulled back to Hillcrest by an airport run. I did several trips on University that evening. Next weekly report had a rating drop.

Since then I know if I do a dozen trips in Hillcrest my ratings will drop.
I have enough trips that it only drops down a small amount, but enough to notice.

I don't go there if I can help it.

I do believe that Hillcrest is always mentioned as a hot spot for rides because drivers don't want to drive University Ave.

For sure I will never pick up at Bar Pink again. Drunks pound on the car when they see the Uber trade dress.
Wow, bar pink, eh... Nice to know, Rockin! I'll stay away.

The Hillcrest rating situation sounds like it would make sense, as that crowd is hard to please, sometimes. Occasionally you'll get good PAX from Hillcrest, but knowing what to expect from PAX in specific areas, is key. Not knowing what to expect from PAX in specific areas, can have a negative effect on your ratings.(just as RockinEZ mentioned)

..Hillcrest's PAX may be more picky than PB PAX; North Park PAX may expect you to have charging and AUX cables for them; ect.

Don't want drunken PAX? Don't drive bar scene @130-3am
Don't wand sand in your car? Don't drive near the beach..

The point is - Be mindful of the vibes and feel of the areas you're working in. PB will have a different feel of PAX than North Park, Del Mar PAX, Downtown PAX,ect. Get to know the areas, and you'll be able to make your life easier, and make being apart of the driver community a better experience.

It is good to know your town.....

I will leave the 12-3am thing for those guys with "auction cars" that they only use for Uber and don't mind a barfer or two. These are the more clever Uber drivers that don't risk their regular vehicle.

When I first started I did work downtown and PB at closing. I quickly learned that I liked my car more than I wanted "closing time" money.

Except for the pisser from Sea World I have had good luck working tourist places and quitting between 10 and midnight.

How's the Lyft business in the past week, did it pick up since your last report? My house in Temecula is closing escrow next Tuesday. Back in San Diego county in Carlsbad by the sea. Driving less but smarter now, staying away from the spots you mentioned. I pushed it hard 12 hours one shift last week and bad karma got me. Sidewall nail in my tire, could not patch, $100 out of my net profit. I missed a standard last second gps command and slid my back end and that is when I got clipped by the nail. Made an extra $50 net in the 3 extra hours worked and it cost me twice that. 8 hours online max now on and I'm done. Bad shit happens when you run over 200 miles and 8 hours online. Cashing the house out so I'm flush with liquid assets. Time to smell the roses and stamp the passport finally after 5 years of no travel and fixing repairs at my palace of pain. Downsizing and rejoining the condo bondage of life of a San Diegan. Time to get a sugar momma uber rider and keep my money locked up. I hope google hits the market next year, not looking promising in two tiered commission Uber. In the meantime, support Lyft and sidecar deliveries.
Safe driving my friends!!

Sorry Steve, that is bad luck. It does happen when you spend so many hours on the road. I typically drive over 200 miles when I drive. I have been rear ended (insurance still pending), pissed on ($200 from Uber, and I cleaned it myself with a shop vac and a quart of carpet shampoo... lost a day)
I still turn on the Lyft app when Uber is slow. I still get long pings and a lot of cancels. Carlsbad is good for Lyft. I think the Lyft van in Carlsbad all the time is marketing... It works. In San Diego Lyft is not working yet. I hope it does.
Wear and tear on the car is what makes TNCs a loosing proposition. We only do it to make some money until we get a real job.
I just found out my new boss is a nut case. I am going to stick it out as long as possible, but am actively looking for a new one. The guy has no idea about setting proper expectations. He makes 10 appointments and makes one. ADD or cocaine, I am not sure which. He has no idea he has external and internal customers. He never meets commitments to internal customers. (other departments, employees, FREAKING EH!) I do think this guy is doing coke.
Oh well... Pizza next? What ever pays the rent until I get another real job.

Sorry to hear you got stuck with a coke addict. Gamblers, druggies and alcoholics drag down everyone. I had a Lyft customer that wanted to hook up with me but she is a bad seed. Since my injuries my big head does the talking. My little head got me laid a lot, but I was always on the bubble. Not going back to those days. What are you doing now for your new gig? Did you get rear ended with passenger in car? An uber claim or personal claim? Hope it works out ok, I will be available to meet up after I move next week.

I had just dropped off a Lyft customer and signed off the app. I had neither Uber or Lyft running.
It didn't matter because I was waiting at a red light when a woman hit me from behind.
I turned it into her insurance AAA. They asked me to get a estimate. Lucky for me they use the VW dealer I bought the car from.
I got the estimate and am waiting for AAA to approve.
$900 for a new bumper. I will bug them again tomorrow for an approval.

If you get hit from behind in CA it is the other driver's fault. So should be good sailing if the planets align.

Was it smooth with metro mile when you reported that you got hit by them. Just curious about their claims dept. and how they dealt with AAA. Good thing you were offline, you would have had to deal with uber.
Must be the week for car issues around here. Last week replaced my windshield and patched a tire.

Got my 1st puker on Friday(9/4). He opened the door, while driving on Sweetwater Rd in national city, & let loose. Luckily, puke was only on my door. Easy cleanup & I saw the signs but I let him in my car anyway. Lesson learned.
