Actually, last night was when I got my first Eats request. I wasn't interested in doing it last night, so I turned down 3 back to back requests. So today I got a request (13 minutes away). Normally I wouldn't drive this far for anything, but I decided to just take it and see how the whole Eats experience goes. I arrived at The Corner Pug in West Hartford and stood at the bar for about ten minutes before the food was ready. While I was waiting, another Uber driver came in for a food pick-up and we chatted for a bit while we both waited. His advice to me was to inform Uber recipients that tips are NOT included in their fare. I wholeheartedly agreed.
So my food was finally ready to go, I went back to my vehicle and drove off. I arrived in Newington at the delivery location. Met the guy at the door. Before I could utter anything other than "Hi, Uber delivery for Brandon," he took the bag from my hand and said "Thanks man," and closed the door. No tip, no hesitation of whether or not he should tip or not.
I took one more delivery request after that one, same deal - no tip. I got another request after that one, 23 minutes away - declined.
In all, I made an equivalent of about $8/hour during my time on Uber Eats. Not including expenses. So yeah, definitely a losing gig there. Anyone out there considering signing up for Eats, don't do it. Not unless they address these earnings issues. Would be nice if they paid us per minute of waiting for the pick-up to be ready, and put an in-app tipping feature in (lol). I had a guy actually ask me today if he could tip me through the app. I got a cash tip instead.
