I have now been fired from all rideshare companies. I never got very far with any of them.
my main question is if other Uber drivers experience this and how do they keep such high ratings. I can provide more details on specific incidents.
I first got fired with RideAustin and Lyft. by then i had finally figured out that you have to drive VERY CAREFULLY. sometimes in Austin downtown traffic i might turn left onto a main street even when there is slowly oncoming traffic because i knew they would let me through since it was soooo busy. things like that would get me bad ratings and i got fired.
With Uber they gave me more of a chance to get my ratings back up after the first couple bad ratings i made it to around 150 rides I think.
I would get complaints for professionalism and that was when i finally learned that if you tell someone "no" for any reason whatsoever they will rate you badly. It also took me awhile to learn that if the pickup process was not completely seamless, that is a 1-star rating. I figured a passenger would be understanding if I was parked across the street (its hard to deal with traffic and watchout for street numbers on buildings to find the right spot) , or had to park a little bit away from them since the pickup location was in the middle of the road.
I learned to simply cancel these types of trips before they started but the damage was already done.
Many people would want me to wait for them while they ran errands or made multiple stops (this is maybe 15% of riders)
I was doing good after that. had straight 5-star ratings for like two weeks. brought my rating from a 4.1 to a 4.48
Then yesterday I had a few bad ratings for whatever reason and i fell to a 4.41 then got fired that same day (before all my passengers even had gotten around to rating me for their trip).
There was a few people that i know who rated me bad and I almost didn't pick them up. Ive had someone really give me vehicle a strange look and complain about the air conditioning the whole way then rate me poorly afterwards. so i always look at their face or even the slightest of comments like, "is this your first time?" or "are you ok?" when they are getting in, because those always end up being bad ratings.
The people i had yesterday one of them looked like they had a scowl and the other one was wearing these ray bahns and a polo and said "ill just get in the ****ing front". i don't know why i didn't cancel the ride immediately with them but i figured other uber drivers don't have to do this sort of extreme cautious vetting. I told him i couldn't wait for him while he was in the bank because its not worth it for me. But he seemed like he totally understood and said stuff like "yeah i always ask because i get how it is for drivers". I told him i really appreciated that but he still rated me badly.
I got a 4-star rating and reported for "conversation" after this girl kept asking me question and for tunes when i was in the middle of trying to back up into traffic and turn on a busy street. I answered her but not immediately.
They kept asking if it was legal to ride in my pickup bed also. that didn't register in my brain as telling someone "no" so i started the ride.
Do other drivers have to lock their doors and just drive off if someone comes off the wrong way just to preserve their ratings?
I drive a four door pickup truck 2016 ford, its very nice.
