Finally unemployment for drivers

I'm not even sure where to begin with it. I've never applied for govt "benefits" before, and I hate the idea of having to do it now.
I never even signed up for healthcare since the website wanted info about my income and I'm like "the number the Uber gives to the IRS, the amount that actually made it to my bank account (vastly different number), or my income I file with after all my deductions (again, and even smaller number)". Seems like there's nobody to talk to, or any proper "help" feature with these things...
Seems like if you use your adjusted gross income after all our deductions, it'd be good for applying for things like Obamacare, but terrible for things like unemployment benefits (if we can even get them). lol
If someone has successfully already done this, a how-to guide would be greatly appreciated for those of us who aren't fluent speakers of "government".
I definitely don't want men in cheap suits showing up at my door claiming I tried to commit some sort of welfare fraud, or whatever it'd be classified as.
Also, what happened to: "you independent contractors don't pay into unemployment benefits, so you can't file for it"?
We need more info.

They just opened up the Health Insurance Marketplace again. I signed up through a insurance agent I found on the internet. Them signing you up comes out better than you filling out the application yourself. Some insurance agents are at Wal-Mart too.

It’s in the current bill (unemployment for gig economy workers) but it still has to go through senate and the president so it’s not finalized yet

As an Independent Contractor, how can I file for unemployment? U/L has not laid me off, nor have they terminated me. If I can still turn the U/L apps on, and be available for ride requests, then why would I be eligible for unemployment insurance?
On the other hand I DO have a valid State Business License, a TNC number, and a County License. I own my business, and I determine the days and hours I wish to provide transportation. The virus pandemic has adversely impacted my BUSINESS, just as it has for the airlines, hotels, restaurants, etc.
It would appear my Independent Contractor small business that has been hit hard due to the virus pandemic, would be eligible for a small business loan that may be included in the emergency relief bill working it's way thru congress? The loan would keep my small business in operation so that I would not have to close down and go out of "business". I could repay the loan at zero or low interest as allowed and stretch the payments out and possibly deduct them on future tax filings? The amount of the loan could be based on past year tax filings and 2020 weekly U/L deposits.
I am certainly no tax expert nor unemployment filing expert, and none of us have seen the final version of the virus emergency relief bill yet! Just throwing a few thoughts out to the forum for consideration. Thanks!

The president stated at his daily news conference today that we are eligible for unemployment. I don’t know how it is going to work until we see the bill that has to be passed by Congress. I am sure some will make more collecting unemployment than driving. Good times ahead. I have had my app on for the last 2 weeks on select did not get 1 ride. So I have attempted to work and will be collecting unemployment for 4 months plus the Federal Gov will kick in a extra 600.00 on every check.

Unemployment is left up to the states if you read that portion of the bill.Try and see what unemployment tells you when you try and ask today on the computer or call.Uber will not release your earnings information.Uber has not paid into unemployment because they dont feel your a employee.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. Look for the state of Nevada to require all rideshare drivers to carry their own unemployment insurance going forward.
At least you're getting closer and closer to feeling like a small business owner.

I only drive for uber so I don’t have to work and I still make decent money. Not for the love of transportation. So now we make money and don’t even have to work! I can get used to this! This will be a nice little vacation time😎

I filed for unemployment on march 20 and was denied a couple days later. This was the expected outcome but I decided to file anyway. I will try again as soon as the law is more on our side.
