They've been here for months and driving with the same looking equipment that uber has on the Volvo except in Ford Fusions. They just drive in circles really fast, one after the other.

It's EX Uber engineering that went off on their own and is funded by Ford. They have about 50 cars here in my market. They for sure aren't picking up anybody but testing here. The engineer (Uber) I picked up said he's guessing that they are just racking up miles to obtain bonus money and probably more funding. It is fitting they are working in the areas where Uber owns two huge driveless only engineering buildings.

By the time Uber figures out everything, they'll probably be years behind everyone else.

Autonomous vehicles will definitely come to be, and sooner than some rideshare drivers are willing to believe.
It won't be a full-on takeover of the current rideshare industry at first, but the initial goal is to put many of these autonomous vehicles in high-volume areas that have a need to move pool pax quickly over short distances. Kind of what city buses currently offer, but quicker service involving "people-movers" that can hold 6 or 8 passengers. This autonomous pool service is being viewed as a profitable market that will fill a niche that most drivers prefer to avoid.

No major player in this is planning to do this.
