I had two rides requests back to back. One was a pickup at a grocery store. When I got there two women with a cart full of groceries were waiting. I told them I felt it unsafe to have three people in the car and the large load of groceries. If I am having to sanitize my own few groceries then a carload of possibly contaminated bags is not what I a willing to transport. One of the women started cursing me so I cancelled the ride.
The next passenger was at Walmart. She had a cart piled high and on the bottom with groceries AND two kids. I told her the same thing...four people and more groceries than my car can hold.
I informed both that even before the coronavirus that passengers should request a vehicle large enough to accommodate their needs. Is that correct?
As I have complained about in the past, I transport people. I am not a grocery delivery man. Invariably the passenger takes a long time loading and unloading the groceries and the ride is usually not far from the pickup to their destination. I don’t feel drivers are paid enough for these type rides.
The bottom line is that stores are asking that only ONE member of the family cone into the store. It is rude and unsafe for these people to bring extra people and expect me to risk my life for $3.00.
I enjoy helping people but passengers are increasingly taking unfair advantage of drivers. The passenger at Walmart was a great distance away.
