The concern I have with this is we don't technically fit the description of "gig workers" indicated here ("no work or lost hours"). We have simply lost a good chunk of our business. Still, I suspect they will be lenient with us. Also, I thought the $600 payment was for 4 months. Now, they're saying more like 3 months (13 weeks)?
I too noticed the $600 federal payment was suppose to have been applied weekly for 4 months, it now appears to be for 13 weeks. Lets hope that the federal payment will get extended in the next stimulus package that Congress is already working on. If we are truly headed into a recession, its highly likely that the payments will be extended. One can only hope. The concern I have with this is we don't technically fit the description of "gig workers" indicated here ("no work or lost hours"). We have simply lost a good chunk of our business. You're so right. And also the article reminds us that gig workers will have to await the government's direction to state unemployment officials on how to properly characterize us. So WE will be last in line. From my reading, I won't see any unemployment benefit for 4-6 weeks or likely by the week of May 11th. The benefits will be retroactive from the day I filed last week so we're not losing anything. We'll just need to use our own resources to wait it out. And again, there's no windfall here because that money will just go right out to pay accumulated bills, no cause for celebration, just keeps us from having to go out in the backyard to grow our own food (I'd starve, how do I grow Certified Angus Porterhouse?).It's wrong...13 week extension is for UI benefits The Feds do this all the time and it applies to all states. The $600 a week is because of the emergency. This guy from the DOL doesn't know what he's talking about. We qualify, stop overthinking and reading articles from morons that are clueless and do zero actual research, just repeat what someone who is wrong says.

We will just have to wait and see how long it takes. I know they are going off the numbers from 2009 in terms of how long it will take people to get the $1200 check. I would think the system and technology is more advanced now than it was back then and we won't have to wait more than 2 or 3 weeks if your direct deposit info is already with the IRS. The difference though is there are a lot more people depending on this money than back in 2009. Everyone should be in contact with any company they want to postpone a payment with. Mortgage, Rent, Electric, gas, Car, Car Insurance, Health Insurance, credit cards etc... they will work with you if you need time to pay. Many of these companies are extending a month or 2 without penalties. We have to remember this all uncharted territory for everyone, its a different situation than we have ever had before so this is all new for these companies. You're so right. On the stimulus checks, I just read that people who have their returns written with their direct deposit information might get their checks within 6 weeks and those who elected to get their returns via mail might have to wait up to 10 weeks. But they went on to say that you can go to the IRS's site and request to have them use your direct deposit information going forward.
I went on the IRS's site to do that and they said it will take them about 3 weeks to issue the proper form for us to do that on their site. So this is a big waiting game.
We have had to indefinitely postpone several major family functions planned for this spring: one baby shower, an engagement party, 2 weddings and other lesser ones as well. Not a blame game here, it's just that we've never had to go through this before so this is new ground under the "shyte happens" doctrine. Something I live with daily.
The other huge deal here of course is that our economy and the world's economy will likely take the biggest hit in our lives to date. It will never come back looking like it did before the Virus struck. Just like we saw major changes after 9/11 and the Great Recession of 2008. Hope nobody out there's afraid of change😱
When applying for UI in NJ they do ask where you did your work. I know a W2 employee applies to the state in which you work. Considering the article that NY gig workers have been covered under UI in NY since 2018 I would say you apply in NY because that's where your work took place. Since this is all new its anyone's guess. I would call NY and NJ UI and try to get an answer or apply to 1 state and see what happens.I guess i'll have to wait until next week to apply
By the way, are any of you guys like me? I live in NJ but work exclusively in NYC...I dont know if i need to apply in for unemployment in NJ or NY. (I work as a uberEats guy on a bicycle)
Good lick trying to call them, they are overwhelmed. Just apply in the state you live in and wait.We will just have to wait and see how long it takes. LMAO!!Good lick trying to call them
I had a group of Self Employed NJ Entrepreneurs send over 3,000 emails to the Governor. The first few were answered with "i am sorry, but we can not,,,", then they started saying "we will see what we can.." Then they were not answered at all. Then on the first of April (fools day) they emailed the new chart and a small message saying"they are not sure until they have further discussions with the Fed". I win...Unemployed workers in N.J. may be able to get the expanded $600 benefit starting next week, state says The benefits will be a huge boon for workers who lost jobs or had their hours reduced because of stay at home mandates.

GREAT WORK, I wish I had thought of that and acted on it as you had. You did everyone a great service. But I still get the impression from the reading that NJ will be awaiting the FED direction in our circumstances. But you certainly got them to notice us. But it's not clear to me where it says that Uber drivers will get benefits in a week. But you still da man.I had a group of Self Employed NJ Entrepreneurs send over 3,000 emails to the Governor.
