So my last 30 or so rides on Lyft have been almost exclusively in the "less desirable" neighborhoods of Philadelphia. You know, the ones that look like where they filmed "The Wire" that always have prime time because most of us are scared to drive there. In that time my rating has dropped from 4.95 to 4.65.

Other than that nut job in south philly (one of the few of this stretch that wasn't in the hood) that I'm certain one starred me (right back atcha ) I can't think of a single legitimate reason for me to have lost 1 star, let alone 26 of em. I drive a really nice car, I'm friendly, I know the city well, and I'm an exceptional driver. My rating with Uber has been between 4.8 and 4.85 for the last year and a half over 2600 rides and before this stretch my Lyft rating never went below 4.8 in 700 rides.

I thought about it and the only explanations I can come up with are butthurt over prime time and/or racism. That's how y'all wanna play it? Fine. Now there's one less Lyft driver available for rides in your area which means higher prices for you. If y'all wanna quit runnin your pockets for rides you might wanna be a bit more appreciative of those of us who will still pick you up and rate appropriately.

I stopped obsessing about my ratings once I concluded that they are meaningless and not based on my actual level of service.

Once I did that, my ratings went up, currently 4.9, go figure.

They don't matter on Uber. I am certain it's a different story with Lyft. Otherwise I wouldn't really care with them either

Pax be smoking that new stuff.....im at 4.9 on both apps but the rating system sucks overall on both.

Me too. But I also find it's not all of them but the ones that are ghetto and live there because they belong, not the ones that just happen to live there because they're poor. I get a much higher percentage of those hood rat types as pax on Lyft.

I can't prove it but at the same time I can't help but think the fact that I'm really really white has at least something to do with it.

I am not white. I try to be really nice and accommodating to them. But they are just nasty with me. I remain calm, don't kick them out, and even apologize when I know they are clearly wrong. That doesn't stop them for giving me a bad rating. Like I said, the young female ones are the worst. No respect. No appreciation.

One thing I learned is to not try to be too friendly in the hood. I just say "hello, how are you?" when I pick up, and "thank you, have a nice day/evening" when I drop off. Trying to engage the passenger in a friendly chat usually does not turn up so well in the hood.

Well you can deal two ways with sistahs, either bow to them and be super nice, because they have shit lives in poverty and want the upper hand in any interaction where they can get it. They really like the ma'am and sir politeness. The nicer ones are really weirdly formal with me, they call me sir and stuff. You just don't do that in the white middle class world.

Or you can just stand your ground and give 'em attitude right back, that's actually more comfortable for them. But try being extra nice and polite, they don't really know how to deal with it because it's not the world they're used to.

I usually keep it short. The iphone comes out almost immediately after they get in anyway and then I shut up and drive

Hood rats can be fun to deal with.....dont over do it....sign of weakness.....a simple hello....or whats up will do....once they detect that you are an Alpha male then smooth sailing.....different cultures react different ways....end of the day....we are humans that need educating on all cultures. Some ghetto hood rats need to be kicked out.....period....once they see you are sweet...lights out.....but basically thats with any of these cheap Pax. They dont just live in the hood either.

For real. Don't ever be "sweet" with pax. Great advice! Take a onestar on the chin if you have to, you'll be alright.

I dealt with quite a few females in the hood, I never had a problem with them. I don't exclusively pick up in those areas but I mainly drive in the more popular areas just avoid the drama...lol.
