Apparently the EDM crowd takes their ish very seriously.

Yesterday, I got someone who left the show early. They forgot to put on their seatbelt so the car was beeping and the dude seemed to be completely oblivious, presumably because it sounds just like what he was listening to.

"Can you hear that remix playing?"

"Which?"

"It's Toyota's Cover of 'Put your seatbelt on' by that Rufus guy."

Probably 1 starred. Worth!

Can't stand the anti-seatbelters, especially the ones who feel you are being rude by asking them to put on a seatbelt for their safety. Most of the time it's just "oh, I forgot." "Sorry." Or, even "thank you for reminding me."

Some people argue, debate whether you legally have to, object snarkily "seriously!?" and "I never wear them, but if you're going to make me..."

Surprised how comfortable and trusting these people are with strangers driving them, and others on the road that didn't opt to Uber but should have.

I personally don't care if you wear it or not. I will not drive with my cluster blinking and beeping though.

There's an inherent risk to being on the road. I don't want to take on more than necessary. A passenger is adding to your risk by choosing not to buckle up.
I agree, but sizing up most of my Pax, their lives are worth less than the 1 million liability policy Uber/Lyft provide if I were sued and lost. If it's MY negligence that causes their injuries (VS that of another driver), CA employs a comparative fault for such negligence. As drivers, we have a duty to operate our cars in a safe and prudent manner. However, under CA law passengers are also required to wear seatbelts.

This is slightly complicated by CVC 27315, which says that a driver shall not operate a vehicle unless occupants are secured with a seatbelt. However, for the purposes of awarding damages, the plaintiff would only be entitled to damages that would have been sustained had they worn the seatbelt (Housley v. Godinez (1992)).

Since the Risk of not wearing a seatbelt is mostly not -MY- risk, I take the libertarian stance that they're adults making conscious decisions about how to conduct their lives and safety. If they have dreams of supermaning into oncoming traffic, who am I to deny them their free will?

I will draw the line at more pax than seatbelts, no carseat, etc. not because I care about the lives of idiot pax and their children, but because it could cause me to run out of insurance.

This is likely the most intelligent post I've seen on this site, and will see for quite some time. Thank you for citing the case law as well.

You had me at the first sentence btw. And it could have also read "I agree, but sizing up most of my Pax, their lives are worth less than [my own]" and I would have been equally satisfied. :p

I just say "when you have time please fasten seat belts, thank you". I haven't gotten one, but heard SDPD on bicycles downtown write drivers up for passengers not wearing theirs. Best to save yourself some grief.
