Love watching them spazz out blinking and waiving flashlights saying the pax name over and over again like they were looking for their lost dog. All for a non surge ride after waiting almost an hour.
Its probably due to the cancel storm that is in part because of saturation. Riders have been canceling at an alarming rate lately, and I truly believe it is because they want a ride NOW! If you get the ping and you are 50 yards behind a driver they see that doesn't have a rider, they will cancel you and request them, saw it happen multiple times at events, people are tired, they want to go home, so some manually hail a driver and cancel their previous request. Others will see you driving the wrong way on the freeway, all you are going to do is exit the next exit and turn around, adding like 2 mins to the ETA, but they will cancel you the second they see you traveling in the opposite direction so they can get someone traveling towards them, even if that person will take the same or more time. I am texting my clients immediately whenever they request me and I will be traveling in the other direction before turning around. I want them to see that I am engaged and if they cancel they will not feel like it is a faceless push of a button. It works. Similar to those guys waving flashlights, if they engage their riders, the riders are less likely to cancel.
