OK so Saturday night, 11:50 PM I pick up a decent looking clean cut guy, early 20's. He was a little buzzed but didn't appear drunk. He gets in the back and was talking normal enough about his night with his buddies who talked him into drinking some new "pretty hard brew." After about 10 minutes of conversation he grew quiet and I assumed he was looking at his phone. Then I heard heavy breathing and I realized he was asleep.

After about 5 minutes of silence from the back seat I suddenly heard a shriek come from the back seat (which jolted me off my seat) followed by curse words, mumble, mumble, then silence. I called his name "Mike" and asked if he was OK. More silence. Then about 2 minutes later:

SHRIEK!!...mumble..mumble...CURSE WORDS!!...silence.

2 or 3 minutes later...

SHRIEK!!... mumble..mumble...CURSE WORDS!...silence.

So if I just copy and paste these two sentences above to make out the next 20 minutes of that ride, that's how that ride went.

It's not over though. I finally pull up in front of his house which is the last one on a dead end rural road. I call out to him and ask if this is his house. He wakes up, looks over at his house, says yeah, then falls back asleep. I spend the next 5 minutes repeating this. I wake him up, he responds, then falls back asleep. Then my phone pings and I accept the request, so hopefully now Mike can see he needs to get out of my car. Mike responds with " Go ahead, go pick up the other person." Then falls back asleep.

At this point I get out of the car. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm a small female 5' 3" and 130 lbs. Mike, 5' 10" and 210 lbs. (guessing.) Then I thought of this board and some of the more recent posts from some female drivers concerned about their safety while driving, so I thought about calling the cops. Then I thought for what?! This isn't 1905 and I'm not going to be the damsel in distress. When I signed up for Uber I knew the risks I was taking in doing this job. Never had a problem like this before but tonight was my night so it's not the time to become delicate. "I'm getting him out of this car, by myself", I told myself. Yes he could sucker punch me or come at me with a weapon. Those are the chances we all take regardless of who the pax are, where they sit, or how the ride goes.

I open the door and reach in and unbuckle him and he then lays down across the back seat and goes back to sleep. So I grab his legs and slide him down until I can grab his jacket and pull him back to a sitting position. He wakes somewhat and by hanging onto me I was able to get him into a standing position outside my car, directly in front of the open car door.

At this point a large dog (possibly a Mastiff) comes charging from around the back of the house towards us. I let go of the pax's coat and back away. It's the pax's dog and he's incredibly happy to see his master. The pax calls to his dog and the dog leaps up on the pax's chest, knocking him back down into my back seat, now with the dog in the car too, laying across his owner's body.

I see the dog is friendly so I open the opposite back door to get the dog out, but the dog is having none of it. The pax is happily cooing his dog, and the dog is so happy that he is bouncing his muddy-pawed self from my back seat, through the console area, to the front seats, then back to the back seat. Meanwhile I'm racing around my car opening all my doors to get the dog out. Finally I get the dog out, and resume my process of getting the pax back out of my car and standing again. I held onto the pax, and with him leaning on me, I walked him to his doorstep and held him while he unlocked his door, went inside, his dog went in with him, and Mike was able to shut the door and stumble to his couch before collapsing on it and going back to sleep. (He had big bay windows so I could watch all this from outside the house.)

Finally I get back to my car and see the interior is covered in dog fur and muddy paw prints. My other ride had been canceled so I just slid the app offline, and drove home. (Passing through a glowing red surge in Ballard WA, completely offline.) The next day I went out to my car and after 15 minutes with a pet sticky roller, Oxy Clean, and Febreze and the car is good as new. Anyways, that was my Saturday night.

Still should have grabbed his wallet, taken the green out and thrown his credit cards all over his front lawn. He's a man child, too many grown men act like this and get away with it. Did you report him?
Get a cleaning fee
Take a pic of the mess the pooch made in your car?????
You took$$$$ out of your pocket to clean his mess!!!!!

She's really lucky
It's amazing people put themselves in danger in both scenarios. Honestly though, most people are good people. Subconsciously we usually do what's best for each other, or at least people over the age of 40 do!!!!
Great Job!

Did you listen to Elton John " Saturday Night" or De La Soul "Saturday"......or Bee Gees "Saturday Night Fever" on the way home!!

Yes reported it to Uber, but when I went out to my car this morning to get daylight photos, the footprints were dried so the mud just looked like dust spots in the picts. I didn't want to lose another day of work waiting on Uber. (This being Sunday and no detailing shops open around here for walk ins.) I didn't take picts saturday night for 2 reasons. 1, I just wanted to get the hell out od there, and 2, I remembered that I had once accidentally got mud on my own seats by putting a bag on the seat that had mud on the bottom. I had remembered that once dried, it cleaned up perfectly. I'll see what they say about lost wages though.

No dash cam, never felt I needed one due to the areas I work, but there's a first for everything, Saturday night was my night to draw the short Uber straw, so yeah, tomorrow I'm off to Fry's to buy a dash cam.

You touched pax. That is against Uber policy.
It is also legally a felony called "battery".
Hope he doesn't complain!
Did I mention he was hanging all over me? Did I mention his dog was unleashed and loose? Maybe one of his many night terrors picked him up and got him to his door.

Hindsight being 20/20, you could have taken pictures of the mess and submitted them to Uber for the cleaning fee. It may not have been much, but at least it would have been some compensation for having been taken off line. I'm glad the situation ended relatively well for you though. Too many times, it doesn't.

No it's not. If you see someone lying on the street and you touch them to see if they're ok, is that battery? If I catch you as you trip, is that battery?

It's not illegal just to touch someone, even intentionally. It matters what the intent is.

And in any case, once the ride is over and you've told the pax to get out of the car, you could make the argument that at that point they're trespassing.

No court would ever prosecute her for battery. That's just silly speak.

You mentioned calling cops.....then asked why?..

I say call them reason being his trip was finished and could have had trouble with diabetes acting up with very low blood sugar

Most diabetics act like they are really drunk not being able to stand or walk right and so on...but anyway if it happens again don't remove anyone from car physically because if it was a diabetic with very low blood sugar you could have really hurt him or he could have turned on you physically not knowing what he was doing

Call cops explain what is happening they will show up and handle it and if it is low blood sugar the can request ambulance

You should have taken every last dollar out of his pocket.....that would be awful karma, but you would have gotten a pass from a higher power because anything less than a $50.00 tip for that ordeal wouldn't have been enough!!!!
Great Job Girl
Take the Money & run!!!
Should have done so not by going through his wallet but getting a cleaning fee for the mess.

Could have easily been $150 tip

Have to say I was laughing at the way you wrote about it, dog bouncing around the car. You did fine, not sure I would have helped him into his house but then again, I'm not a nice person. I do think however that you should always go for the cleaning fee, it's compensation for time and effort. You were the loser no matter how easy it was to clean.

Thanks I'll remember that, but he did say when he was speaking normally, that his buddies convinced him to try this new brew. He said " It was some dark colored s***."
I don't drink, but I've heard that dark liquor is really strong stuff.

Lisetti, I admire your spirit. From reading your posts it seems you've gone through a lot of crap just doing your job. BTW, have you thought about working days only? Anyway, good luck and God bless you.
Thank you. I'm a college student so I can't work during the day. Also, in my city, the daytime is dead. I get out of school at noon, but if I have a project, which I usually do, it's 2 or 3 pm before I get out.
