I had my first Select ride about 3 days in - destination was less than a mile away. I average about 2-3/week but I only work 25-30hrs a week and only during the day. So, one for every 10 rides. I haven't had a single Select ride to either airport from the East Bay but I have had a handful from the city to SFO. Most rides are short, often cost me a bottle of water(5 cents). They tip more often than not and tip very handsomely. I have to remind myself to jump out and open up their doors - just not used to doing this and I think it's probably cost me a $10 tip here and there. It's all about making them think they are getting the VIP treatment. I often have a copy of the New York Times in the back seat too but all my riders have access to it and only one rider has ever taken it with him - a single pool rider. People often won't read it but just having it there and PAX seeing it, makes them think they are special.

Select has way too much down time , I have no clue how that guy posting huge numbers is doing it.

His numbers are just not our reality

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat ? are you really opening the door for them ? Damn lol that's no bueno.

just be friendly , keep the car clean , brake appropriately and drive like a sane person.

Most select riders are escaping dirty cars and dangerous drivers , opening doors is for Uber black drivers.

I open the doors for most of my female single rider pax - Select or X. I have been a bit lazy at times....I will for the older gentlemen too. Just the way I operate. If it's a busy street in rush hour or in a bus zone or at a busy time at the airport, I put it in park and will jump out and open the pax door on my side to make sure they can get out of the car and walk around to the curb safely.

I am totally ignorant when it comes to politics, but what I see around myself in California, it scares me, I could never imagine in my wildest dreams to have a house in California someday. New York and California seem so out of control, I ran from New York, and I am running for my life now from California :(

How is Select in this market?

I drive a lot of rich guys now in X

Do people still use Select as much as a few years ago?
For me, driving select is like being a classy driver for choosy entitled folks. These people have money or expense accounts and they want to enjoy their status of having made it to the top. Most of them are business executives or fund managers that don't give a fvck about the price of a nice comfortable ride with a better rated driver. Their demands are actually less onerous than many of the poolshitnx riders, but they like clean cars, classy music, and fewer hassles from the dedicated ant drivers.

The best part about select is that these folks are more likely to tip well and least likely to offend the driver. One select trip is two or three times better than a regular uberx and five to ten times better than uberpoolshitz.

Better to have fewer good trips than many difficult, cheap, and less profitable poolz (ubex excluded).
I believe that select works better for part time drivers, but that's my humble opinion!
