I prefer Lyft for a multitude of reasons:
1. tipping through the app,
2. less pings but more profits
3. timer starts 1 minute after you click "arrive", not when pax get in car, or when you start moving whichever comes first.
4. if you cancel (after 5 minutes of a no-show), you get 100% of the cancel fee (but you must attempt to make contact with pax within the 5 min to qualify otherwise no cancel fee at all.
5. Automatic blocking of pax if you rate them 3 or less (meaning you'll never be paired again).
6. Generally a younger, hipper, friendlier crowd.
7. A bit more loyal customers (they prefer Lyft for a reason and tend to be more loyal to Lyft).

You're welcome! I'm sure there are some things I forgot, but I've done both and only turn on Uber if I absolutely have to. I've been having better experiences once I turned off Uber and dedicated my driving to Lyft and all of my bad pax experiences have been on Uber (could just be coincidence). I used to run both apps simultaneously.

I found out today that Lyft will soon be available in Grand Rapids, Mi. Is this a good thing? I currently drive for Uber, should I drive for both? Plus any other pros and cons you may have.
I drove for Lyft exactly two days second day I was accused by a passenger driving under the influence I WAS NOT AND NEVER WOULD but Lyft deactivated my account and sent me an email
I replied 35 times NEVER got a response from Lyft then after two weeks I got reactivated with an email that said Lyft had decided through their good graces to ALLOW me to drive but the email included a warning to be careful

I will not drive for Lyft

I just started driving for Uber again because I'm bored out of my mind. I retired in 2009 & moved to Portland, OR from CT (born here) in 2013. In 2014 Uber suddenly opened shop, made the taxi's & city hall mad and were forced to shut down temporarily in Dec 2014. My one & only pax had just moved here from NYC & I had to tell him Uber was going out of business that afternoon. April 2015 Uber starts operating again after reaching an agreement with the city but the taxi's are still pissed. I decided to try it again and started on July 1st. I start work around 11:00 AM, work for 4 or 5 hours & call it a day. I run the app on an iPad 3 in a custom mount and pax have commented on how neat it looks.

I decided to run Lyft at the same time but it appears they don't have an iPad app & my iPhone 4 screen is mighty small. Anyone figure out how to get the app on an iPad? I have my "Mentor" appointment with Lyft in two days.

You can download the iPhone version and click the X to make it double the size. It's not the best, but it's better than that tiny iPhone screen. You have to switch to iphone apps in the app store to see iphone apps on the ipad.

I don't see an X on the screen but it may be because I'm not activated yet.

Apparently there's no iPad app for Lyft. Is anyone running it on an Android tablet? Does the tablet require cellular capability? (Uber's app does) What kind of tablet are you using? I don't mind buying a small tablet, I just don't want to buy another iPhone because I have a custom iPhone 4 holder that goes on my belt. It's made out of Kydex which is what a lot of my holsters are made from and it's dang near bulletproof.

Not a bad day - 1st pax at 9:20 after I left the donut shop & last fare dropped at the airport at 3:20. Nine trips & I p/u one pax at the hotel where I was dropping another. Two $5 tips which are the only ones in 31 trips total.

I signed up with Lyft today & am just waiting on the BG check. They used the Uber documents for vehicle inspection, etc so I should be good to go by mid-week.

The Lyft app will work on my iPad 3. I'm using the hotspot via Bluetooth to my phone. I'd been using the wi-fi connection but it'd drop randomly & the Uber app would freeze but everything works good now. Now I need to figure out how to make my iPad battery last longer - I had to stop driving b/c it got down to 12% on my last run. The 2 amp Apple OEM charger can't keep up even when plugged into my car's 110v outlet. I tried my external 200ma backup battery but it drained real fast.

Did they say how long will it take for the background ck to be completed? I've been told it takes about 2 wks. Some have said it doesn't very long.

They said 2 - 3 days. I'm already driving for Uber so they may expedite it - don't know for sure. When I signed up with Uber in 2014 I kept getting multiple requests for the same documents from different people. BGC took at least 2 weeks & they were one screwed up bunch. When I re-upped a couple of weeks ago they had an office where I could actually sit down & talk to people. The process was a lot faster.
