Why would a parent send a Uber driver to pick up their child and not notify the school?

Someone help me understand this! I can't imagine going to a school and saying "uh, I'm here to pick up one of your students. I'm a Uber driver. Can you hurry up because surge is almost over?"

I have had requests to pick up students after school gets out. Often it is the parents phone that requested it, so we have no way to contact the one we are picking up, in this case, the child. While I have had about 75% success finding the student, in many cases the student is not very friendly and you will be stuck in traffic trying to pick them up and get out of there. Therefore I have learned to keep my phone off around 3:00pm-4:00pm whenever I am around the suburbs.
Schools and parents really need a better system.

I don't mind picking up kids but I wouldn't want someone picking up my kids, if I had any. not sure how detailed Uber's background check is.

I refuse to pick up unaccompanied minors PERIOD. Not from school not from anywhere. I get one they get canceled.

Forget the exposure to some young girl that cries: "He Molested Me!" and take that $6 fare. Spend the rest of your life on some predator list that your neighbors will snicker over behind your back.
Forget the loss of insurance coverage because you were transporting an unrelated minor in your personal vehicle when somebody hits you from behind. Explain to the cops that show up at the scene of the accident why you have a minor in your car that is not related to you.

Forget all that. What kind of lazy ass parenting does it take to send a stranger to pick up your kid? Not an expensive taxi, a cheap ass Uber instead. What does that say to the kid? "We don't care if you're kidnapped and ass raped by a stranger." is what it says. "You're too much of a pain in the ass to pick up and bring home, we'll pay someone you don't know $6 to do it for us"

Oh..... but no..... too many cancellations and you're not a good little private contractor.

Here's what to do. Accept the ping. Go to the school and roll by the front door for the auto arrival to kick in and then park around the corner of the school. Wait 5 minutes and cancel ride "no show". Junior is safe at the school because they can't let him/her be alone. Since you're right there on the school property, next ping is yours to grab. Accept/arrive/wait 5 more minutes.

After lazy ass mom/dad get fed up and come get Junior themselves you may have given yourself a $12 or even $16 tip. If they call, answer and say: "North American Man-Boy Love Association" and hang up.

lol. yeah. I stated before that I wouldn't mind but on second thought... I would need at least 2 cameras rolling but even that may not be enough.

There are 'free range' parents who let their children roam freely like it's 1950. I guess I can't risk it for a $4+ ride.

I decided to listen to the radio on my phone while taking an afternoon walk. A woman called into a show to ask the hosts their opinion about her kids an Uber. She said the kids school district stopped picking up kids unless they were special. She had no other choice but to let her kids ride Uber by themselves.
