It's been months that I have done any trip without surge on weekend. I only work in day time. So on Saturday and Sunday day time from 6.30am till 1.30pm, I do trips but only in Surge. Minimum trip I accept is with 1.4 surge. At 1.30pm, I finish work and enjoy getting drunk and watching footy.

My theory is that it's better to do 1-1.5 trip per hour with surge rather than 3-4 trips without surge. You will on average make same money if you do 1 or 2 trips with surge or 3 or 4 trips without surge in an hour but you will drive less KM's and save money on fuel and maintenance.

If there is no surge, I just keep myself offline and read something on my tablet or doing online work through my tablet. So waiting for surge doesn't effects me.

Is there drivers on this forum who do trips without surge on weekends and if you do what's your reason?

Sometimes I do a few non surge trips at the start of the evening before it surges crazy IF I have spare time to kill. Better to make a couple of dollars than sit there doing nothing. But its pretty rare for that to happen now days.

But once the surge comes on, then yeah its pretty much surge only, unless the surge is a long way away, and it seems silly to dead head it there. So will pickup a non surge job to see if I get into the right area. Most of the time I do! So getting paid something instead of dead heading it is always way better.

Once the surge goes away in the outer burbs, I go home. Don't want to deal with inner city surge crap, parking/paxs all a pain. No thanks, leave that to someone else.

So destination filter on and take any job offered on the way home. Again no point driving back unpaid!

You'll be pushing to do 3-4 trips an hour! Thats a trip every 15 mins. So in 15 mins, you have to accept it, get there, get paxs, take them there, end trip and repeat.

Fair enough points. I am assuming you live in outer suburbs. I am lucky enough to live near South Yarra so chasing 100% surge trips is not an issue for me

I do... Live out East. But that really means nothing, I end up all over the city. Some of us like certain areas better, they suit the way we like to work etc.

I have nothing against the inner city, but sometimes pickups are just painful and not in the mood for it, so skip out a suburb or two.

I don't have the luxury of chasing the surge, I start at x time and finish at y. But the weekend is reasonably predictable as to when it surges... I go with the flow...

I get what I get...

Same to a point...... Some people don't get this. If your time is limited, you have to take what you can get when you can get it. If you don't live in common surge zones, you also can't sit at home and wait for them to come either.

But like you said, some surges are predictable and you work with them when you can!

Pretty simple

On a weekend
No surge
No ride

Weekday if I have time I will do an free trips but they are barely profitable without surge

I've picked up some great trips from one side of the city to another in non surge $50-$100 for me.
Drop them off continue for half a block then pull over turn the engine off and wait for the next trip.
Whenever I'm in a good surge area I just get eats pings then get booted off for two minutes.
